Job summary

Kellow Recruiting is partnering with an established Canadian process engineering and industrial automation company to recruit a 2D/3D Mechanical Designer in Mississauga, Ontario. You will develop plant layouts, equipment skids, piping routes and supports using AutoCAD and SolidWorks, plus visit customer facilities for field measurements.

This lean, hands-on team offers travel across the GTA and Canada/USA as projects require, taking designs from concept through fabrication and installation.

Qualifications

• 3–7+ years of mechanical design or drafting experience in industrial equipment, process systems, or related fabrication environments.
• Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Ability to independently produce complete, shop-ready fabrication drawings.
• Experience with assemblies, weldments, sheet metal, GD&T, weld symbols and tolerancing.
• Reading and interpreting P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and equipment specifications.
• Willingness to travel; valid driver’s license and passport.

Responsibilities

The Company

Kellow Recruiting is partnering with an established Canadian process engineering and industrial automation company serving the food, beverage, dairy and broader process manufacturing industries.

For more than 30 years, this company has helped manufacturers design, automate, improve and expand their production processes. Their team brings together process, mechanical, electrical and automation expertise, allowing them to support projects from initial process design and 2D/3D modelling through controls, installation, commissioning and ongoing support.

This is a lean, hands-on organization where designers work closely with the people who fabricate, install, program and ultimately operate the systems they design.

Where You Fit

This is more than a CAD drafting role.

As a 2D/3D Mechanical Designer, you will help take industrial process systems from concept through fabrication and installation. You'll develop plant layouts, equipment skids, piping and tubing routes, platforms, supports and custom fabricated components using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.

You'll also get out from behind the screen. You'll visit customer facilities to take field measurements, understand existing conditions, solve retrofit challenges and support installation. You'll have the opportunity to see the equipment and systems you've designed actually fabricated, installed and put into operation.

The role is based from the company's Mississauga office, with regular customer-site work throughout the GTA and travel elsewhere in Canada and the United States as projects require.

What You Will Do

• Produce 2D fabrication and installation drawings in AutoCAD and 3D models and assemblies in SolidWorks
• Develop plant and equipment layouts, process skids, piping and tubing routes, structural supports, platforms and equipment arrangements
• Create shop-ready drawings for weldments, sheet metal, frames, guarding and custom fabricated components
• Work with P&IDs, process flow diagrams, equipment lists, bills of material and drawing revisions
• Perform field measurements and site surveys and develop accurate as-built and retrofit designs
• Check fits, clearances, interference, accessibility and constructability before designs are released
• Work directly with fabricators, vendors, process and controls specialists, installers and project teams
• Support installation and commissioning with field revisions, red-lines and design changes

What We Need From You

• 3–7+ years of mechanical design or drafting experience in industrial equipment, process systems, custom machinery or a related fabrication environment
• Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks and AutoCAD
• Ability to independently produce complete, dimensioned, shop-ready fabrication drawings
• Experience with assemblies, weldments, sheet metal, GD&T, weld symbols and tolerancing
• Practical understanding of fabrication methods and materials, including stainless steel, structural steel, tube/pipe, fittings and mechanical components
• Ability to read and work from P&IDs, process flow diagrams and equipment specifications
• A practical, self-starting approach—you can manage your own design packages, stay organized and identify problems before they reach the shop or field
• Comfortable taking measurements and working in active manufacturing facilities
• Valid driver's licence and passport, with the ability and willingness to travel to customer sites as required

It Would Be Great If You Also Have

Experience designing equipment or process systems for food, beverage, dairy, pharmaceutical or other sanitary/process manufacturing environments would be particularly valuable.

Experience with sanitary design, hygienic piping/tubing, 3-A standards, CIP systems, pasteurization, batching, filling or other dairy/food processing systems would be an advantage, as would advanced SolidWorks capability, large assemblies, 3D laser scanning or point-cloud workflows.
