Job summary

Nova Scotia Community College’s Sydney Waterfront Campus seeks a Learning Commons Assistant - Test Centre Administrator to support library services and testing. The role assists students with technology, coordinates events, and ensures accessibility accommodations are provided.

The position is continuing part-time (50%) with evening/Saturday hours possible. Salary pro-rated to 50% ranges from $47,711.56 to $55,553.09 annually; NSCC offers comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Adult Education, Education, Technology, Administrative, Business, Social Services or Library Technician.
  • First Aid and mental health/wellness training is an asset.
  • Minimum 2 years of recent related occupational experience.
  • Experience in a post-secondary institution or with adult learners.
  • Experience in a test environment is an asset.
  • Strong computer literacy: Office 365, Teams, e-mail, and Assistive Technology.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft, Brightspace, EnCampus, Alma and Pearson would be assets.
  • Comfort working in a digital environment and using technology to advance work.
  • Experience supporting students in post-secondary settings, including assistive tech, is an asset.
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware, software, printers, and copiers.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, deliver and promote services and events in the Library and Learning Commons, including supporting students with technology and learning support resources.
  • Administer the Testing Centre: invigilate tests, consult with faculty on requirements, ensure policy compliance.
  • Liaise with Student Accessibility Specialists on approved test accommodations and assistive technology needs.
  • Support campus events such as convocation, Get Started and Open House.
  • May require some evening and Saturday hours.

What you'll do

Reporting to the Manager, Student Services and functionally reporting to the Manager, Libraries and Learning Commons, you will:

  • Play a key role in the coordination, delivery and promotion of services and events offered in the Library and Learning Commons. This work includes supporting students with technology; providing guidance and support in accessing and using learning support; making referrals to internal and external resources; and collecting and recording service delivery data.
  • As part of the Testing Centre staff, you will be responsible for the administration of the Testing Centre including the invigilation of internal and external testing, consulting with faculty on testing requirements, and ensuring academic and testing policies and protocols are followed.
  • Liaise with Student Accessibility Specialists on approved test accommodation and the assistive technology needs of students with disabilities.
  • Support campus events, activities, and initiatives such as convocation, Get Started and Open House.
  • This position may require some evening and Saturday hours.

Qualifications
Qualifications and Occupational Experience:
  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a post-secondary diploma in an area related to a diploma in Adult Education, Education, Technology, Administrative, Business, Social Services or Library Technician.
  • First Aid and mental health and wellness training is considered an asset.
  • You have a minimum of 2 years (full-time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience.
  • Experience working in a post‑secondary institution or with adult learners.
  • Occupational experience that includes working in an adult educational environment would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a test environment is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities is considered an asset.
  • You have strong demonstrated computer literacy skills including Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Teams, e‑mail, and Assistive Technology, such as text‑to‑speech software.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft, Brightspace, EnCampus, Alma, and Pearson would be assets.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work.
  • Experience supporting/providing service to students in post‑secondary, including supporting students with assistive technology would be considered an asset.
  • You have experience troubleshooting computer hardware, software, printers, and photocopiers.
  • You will be required and supported to acquire and maintain Test Administrator certifications as required by testing partners.
