Job summary

Lakeridge Health Oshawa is seeking two Registered Practical Nurses on a regular part-time basis within the Home Peritoneal Dialysis program. The role involves peritoneal dialysis care for acute and home patients, with day/evening/weekend and on-call shifts.

They must hold current CNO registration, BCLS, and nephrology or progression toward it, with experience in home PD and strong communication, education and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing.
  • Home peritoneal dialysis experience required.
  • Recent clinical experience in Peritoneal dialysis (within 2 years).
  • Nephrology education or progress toward completion requested.
  • Understanding of adult education principles and apply them.
  • Ability to travel for home visits and between sites; valid Ontario license.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; professional conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Apply nursing process with patient- and family-centered care for PD patients.
  • Participate in Health Care and Nursing Team activities and documentation.
  • Maintain competence and professionalism per current practice standards.
  • Educate and train patients, care partners, and staff about PD.
  • Perform peritoneal dialysis for acute and home patients; provide ongoing counseling.
  • Travel to patient homes and between Lakeridge Health sites as required.

Job Title: Registered Practical Nurse X 2

Status: Regular Part Time

Department: Home Peritoneal Dialysis

Program: Nephrology

8 and 12 Hour Shifts, Days, Evenings, Weekends and On-Call Schedule (Subject to Change)

Location: Lakeridge Health Oshawa

Wage Schedule: $36.950 - $39.020 per hour

This position is open to all qualified CUPE staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing 6 August 2026 and closing at 11:59 pm on 13 August 2026.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To apply the nursing process utilizing a patient- and family-centered approach in providing holistic, quality and safe care to patients within the scope of practice identified by the College of Nurses of Ontario, evidence-based nursing practices and the standards set by Lakeridge Health. To actively participate as a member of both the Health Care Team and the Nursing Team. To maintain individual competence and uphold professionalism in alignment with current practice standards. To ensure accurate and timely documentation of nursing records. To function effectively within a multidisciplinary team. To provide education and training to patients, their essential care partners, community agency staff, and other stakeholders. To perform peritoneal dialysis both for acute admitted patients as well as in the home environment, including managing all aspects of care for peritoneal dialysis patients, and providing ongoing advice, counselling, and education related to their condition. Must be able to travel to complete patient home visits and between Lakeridge Health sites as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing);
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintain Reflective Practice Standard as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario;
  • Current BCLS
  • Home peritoneal dialysis experience required
  • Demonstrated recent (within 2 years) clinical experience in Peritoneal dialysis
  • Evidence of continuing education related to the requirements of the position: Nephrology certificate or evidence of progression toward completion required;
  • Understanding of the principles of adult education and demonstrated ability to apply those principles
  • Recent experience with the equipment related to home therapies including but not limited to peritoneal dialysis equipment
  • Previous experience in the area of patient education an asset
  • Clinical knowledge and understanding of the CSN, KDOQI, KDIGO and ISPD Clinical Practice Guidelines
  • Proven excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated excellent problem-solving, decision making and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to freely lift 20 kilograms required
  • Physically capable of performing the duties of the position in order to lift, turn, and transfer patients manually and with mechanical aids;
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational, time-management and team building skills
  • Valid driving licence for the province of Ontario required
  • Access to personal vehicle for the purpose of making home visits required as part of the Home Peritoneal Dialysis Program required
  • Ability to travel for home visits required
