Job summary

Chilliwack School District No. 33 seeks a casual Supervision Assistant for Unsworth Elementary School. The role covers a 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. shift, 1 hour daily, 5 hours per week, for 10 months a year. It is a temporary assignment with seniority and benefits treated like other casual postings.

Under minimal direction, you monitor student behaviour and assist students during non-instructional time, working closely with staff and students to maintain safety and order.

Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent.
• Over six months' experience working with children.
• A valid Safety Oriented First Aid Certificate.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Monitors student behaviour inside the school and on the grounds, and ensures students are in assigned areas.
• Administers First Aid to students.
• Administers student medication as directed by the Principal.
• Reports safety and discipline concerns to principal or designate.
• Promotes and fosters cooperative relationships.
• Distributes activity materials and equipment.
• Performs other student supervision related or emergent duties.

Hourly Rate: $27.61

Shift (subject to change): 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Hours per Day/Week: 1 hour per day / 5 hours per week

Months per year: 10

Division: 5 (Assistant S)

Reports to: Principal or designate

This position is a temporary casual position and will be treated as any other casual assignment in regards to benefits and seniority. If the successful applicant is already a permanent employee with SD33 he/she will maintain their current benefits and will continue to accrue seniority.

Job Summary

With minimal direction, the Supervision Assistant monitors student behaviour and provides assistance to students during non-instructional time. He/she works cooperatively with other employees and students.

Required Knowledge, Ability, Skills

• Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent.

• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to perform individually and as part of a team.
• Ability to use tact, diplomacy and human relations skills for frequent contacts of a difficult, specialized or sensitive nature for such purposes as influencing, persuading or securing the co-operation of others when dealing with the public, parents, staff and students.
• Ability to work with special needs students.
