Fitness And Sport Facility Attendant Position Overview

Are you passionate about fitness and helping others get the most out of their workout experience? As a Fitness and Sport Facility Attendant, you’ll fitnplay a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming, and efficient environment within our fitness center, gymnasium, and other fitness areas. In this dynamic role, you will be the first point of contact for customers in the Fitness Centre and Gymnasium, providing friendly assistance and expert guidance on proper equipment usage and exercise techniques. You’ll ensure that all fitness equipment is well-maintained and ready for use, and you'll be responsible for setting up and dismantling equipment for various programs. Regular cleaning and upkeep will also be part of your responsibilities, ensuring a clean and hygienic environment for everyone. While you’ll follow established Fitness Centre and Gymnasium guidelines, this position offers room for taking the initiative and exercising independent decision-making within policies and procedures. You’ll have the opportunity to resolve common issues on your own and also be expected to know when to elevate more complex situations to your supervisor. If you enjoy interacting with others, working in a team-oriented environment, and playing a key role in the day-to-day operations of a fitness facility, we’d love to have you on board!

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Considerable knowledge of the methods used in proper exercise programs and the use of exercise equipment.
  • Ability to answer general and specific questions related to physical fitness and exercise.
  • Ability to provide general information to individuals and groups on physical fitness exercises.
  • Ability to orient patrons in the use of fitness centre facilities and equipment.
  • Ability to assume responsibility for the overall operation and security of the fitness centre in the absence of supervisory staff.
  • Ability to maintain general records of fitness centre usage.
  • Ability to maintain control and exercise discipline with tact and consistency.
  • Ability to perform artificial respiration or cardiopulmonary resuscitation as appropriate in case of emergency or to provide other first aid treatment as needed.
  • Skill in the use of fitness centre equipment.
  • LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES
  • Current BC Recreation and Park Association (BCRPA) Basic Fitness Leaders – Weight Training Module or equivalent.
  • Standard First Aid Certificate.
  • CPR/AED Certification.
  • Applicants will be required to obtain a Police Information Check prior to hiring.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by weight training, fitness or other recreation courses and a minimum of six months’ related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

HOURS OF WORK

This is an auxiliary position with no ongoing regular schedule of hours.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Skill in the operation of a variety of equipment used in programs for health, wellness and fitness facilities.
