Responsibilities
- You will provide technical assistance for projects led by the Environment and Agriculture Research Scientist. This involves assisting with day-to-day operations of a project to meet the research objectives and commitments with collaborating partners and funding agencies.
- On a daily basis you may be working on running analytical lab equipment as well as supporting a tissue culture research project. This position may also conduct fieldwork in support of data acquisition missions which may require both indoor and outside working environments.
- Innovative and committed to life-long learning the Research Associate is a creative self-starter with a commitment to research excellence.
- You will help the Research Scientist supervise students conducting work in the lab
Qualifications
- Qualifications and Occupational Experience: A diploma, advanced diploma, or degree in a related field or discipline specific to the nature of the research, such as chemistry, biotechnology, natural resources, environmental science, biology, horticulture and agriculture or related field.
- You have a minimum of two years (full-time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in a research environment which includes fieldwork.
- Previous experience that includes at least 1 year of occupational experience conducting tissue culture techniques, specifically somatic embryogenesis, would be considered an asset.
- Occupational experience that includes at least 1 year experience working in a laboratory environment running analytical equipment would also be considered an asset.
- You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite E-mail.
- You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work.
- Experience developing and following clear protocols for operating analytical lab equipment such as TOC / N analyzers, HPLC, LiCor 6800 spectrometers, multiplate readers, thermocyclers, E-GEL, Qubit fluorometers and PCR systems is considered an asset.
- Experience supporting / providing service to students and prospective students would be considered an asset.
