Job summary

Saulteau First Nations Mission is seeking a Youth Program Facilitator to lead culturally appropriate, engaging youth programs within the SFN community. You will help plan, implement, and supervise activities that promote social connection, learning, and healthy eating.

The role emphasizes trauma-informed practice, strong communication, and collaboration with various SFN departments, while maintaining safety, records, and monthly reporting.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma; preference for post-secondary in child and youth development
• Experience in vulnerable sectors such as child services, social assistance, or counselling is an asset
• Experience in program development and facilitation is an asset
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
• Police Information Check - Vulnerable Sector
• Food Safe Level 1 Certification
• Employer will provide WHMIS and Standard First Aid training

Responsibilities

• Participates in planning, development, implementation, facilitation, and supervision of culturally and age-appropriate programs meeting funding agreements
• Manage food budget, track supplies, order ingredients, reduce waste and maintain quality
• Maintain records of clients regarding dietary restrictions, preferences, and allergies
• Teach youth about healthy eating through cooking demonstrations, hands-on workshops, or discussions
• Maintain statistics of meal counts, dietary accommodations and safety logs
• Provide monthly reporting to supervisor
• Collaborate with Youth Centre team to develop monthly/yearly calendar
• Liaise with SFN departments for collaborative opportunities
• Create a safe, welcoming environment and build youth relationships with service agencies
• Provide guidance and referrals to youth and maintain community connections
• Enforce rules of conduct during activities and drop-ins
• Incorporate learning from tradition and culture where possible
• Ensure activities meet health and safety requirements
• Allow time for setup, cleanup, and teardown
• Incorporate Medicine Wheel learnings where possible
• Participate in SFN partner networks and community activities

Job Purpose

Youth Program Facilitators aim to provide a variety of culturally appropriate, fun, and interactive programs primarily for Saulteau First Nations (SFN) youth. The programs are hosted in an inviting setting and offer young community members a place to socialize, connect, and learn.

Duties and Responsibilities

Program Administration and Facilitation

• Participates in the planning, development, implementation, facilitation, and supervision of culturally and age appropriate, fun, creative and interactive programs that meet the criteria of funding agreements for the Youth Centre
• Manage the food budget while tracking supplies, ordering / purchasing ingredients, reducing waste and making cost-effective choices without compromising quality
• Maintain accurate records of clients in regard to dietary restrictions, cultural preferences, and allergies
• Teaches the youth about healthy eating in practical ways which can include cooking demonstrations, hands‑on workshops or conversations about food choices and the effect they have on the body
• Maintains accurate statistics of meal counts, dietary accommodations and safety logs
• Provides monthly reporting to your supervisor
• Collaborates with the rest of the Youth Centre team to develop a monthly and yearly calendar; ensures calendar coincides with other existing SFN Programs and Community events
• Liaises with other Saulteau First Nations departments for collaborative program opportunities
• Cultivates a safe and welcoming environment aimed at establishing relationships with youth and youth service agencies in the community
• Provides general guidance and referral service to youth and maintain relationships with a variety of community youth service agencies and resources
• Tactfully enforces rules of conduct during youth activities and drop-­in services
• Incorporates and evokes learnings through tradition and culture where possible
• Ensures activities align with health and safety requirements
• Ensures adequate time for program set up and take down, and post program clean up
• When possible, incorporates learnings from the Medicine Wheel

Other Related Duties

• Participates actively as a SFN representative in collaborative partner networks and related community activities

Required Qualifications and Certifications

• Minimum high school diploma - preference given to those with post-secondary education in the field of child and youth development
• Experience working in vulnerable sectors such aschild services, social assistance, or counsellingis an asset

• Strong community engagement skills and the ability to build partnerships
• Must maintain a high level of confidentiality
• Tech savvy and knowledgeable of online youth activities
• Positive attitude with creative and dynamic leadership skills

Work Conditions

• This role requires a flexible work schedule of 40 hours per week; some evening and weekend work will be necessary dependent on programming.
• Travel may be required within surrounding community, including travel to SFN community.
• Wage Range: $27.52-$31.65 / Hr
