A community-based organization in Naughton seeks an Education Support Worker – Special Education to support students with Individual Education Plans. The candidate will advocate for resources, visit schools weekly, and coordinate presentations on student success strategies. Relevant diploma and certifications required. This is a contract position for 11 months with a competitive salary.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Employment Status: Contract – 11 Months

Salary: $31.34 – 37.46 /HR – 35 Hours per Week

Location: Naughton, ON

POSITION SCOPE

The Education Support Worker – Special Education will primarily provide support to students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and/or with Identification, Placement and Review Committee (IPRC) recommendations through outreach to families and through liaison and advocacy for services from local school boards. The Education Support Worker – Special Education will also support students in general with student success strategies, such as (but not limited to) student support, brief counselling, and access to tutoring.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • A diploma in Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Worker or Social Services
  • Valid Ontario Class 'G' Driver's License with clean driver's abstract
  • Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Check annually and at time of offer
  • First Aid and CPR with AED Certification
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Attend IEP and IPRC meetings with parents to hear and understand the recommendations of assessments
  • Advocate to ensure special needs of students are met and resources are available
  • Visit elementary and secondary schools attended by our students on a weekly basis in a schedule developed with school officials
  • Coordinate and/or deliver presentations to students, parents and caregivers, on how to support student success i.e., support at home, importance of attendance, etc.
  • Initiates and/or prepares project proposals and maintains an updated project filing system
  • Draft letters, reports, strategies, work plans, budgets, and other briefings as requested as it relates to identified issues
