Job Information

The 2 Billion Trees Coordinator is responsible for leading and implementing the 2 Billion Trees (2BT) program vision for Northwest Territories within and beyond the Forest Management Division, by creating strategies and plans in collaboration with Indigenous governments, comanagement partners and communities, overseeing program implementation; ensuring financial accountability, and reporting results to the federal 2BT Program.

Critical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of boreal forest ecosystems and current silvicultural practices in Canada.
  • Knowledge of forest management practices and planning.
  • Knowledge and understanding of forest legislation, environmental regulations, and best management practices in Canada.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with project management methodologies, tools, and best practices
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to work with Indigenous governments and organizations, communities, other resource managers, and contractors.
  • Ability to develop positive external and internal relationships and partnerships.

Typically attained by,

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry recognized by Forest Professional Regulators of Canada; or a member in good standing of any of Canada’s regulating bodies for Professional Foresters or Biologists, plus three (3) years relevant experience, which must include one (1) year of environmental program coordination/management, supervisory experience, community meetings, or forest development planning. Class 5 driver's license

Equivalencies may include

  • Forest Technician Diploma in Forestry plus four years relevant experience, which must include one (1) year of environmental program coordination/management, supervisory experience, community meetings, or forest development planning. Relevant experience must include silviculture experience. Class 5 Driver's License
  • Other natural resources degree or diploma plus five years relevant experience, which must include one (1) year of environmental program coordination/management, supervisory experience, community meetings, or forest development planning. Relevant experience must include silviculture experience. Class 5 Driver's License
