NSB Omega is searching for 1st Class Power Engineers for our MAJOR Oil & Gas Client in Cold Lake, AB.

Assignment Description

We are seeking a skilled and highly motivated 1st Class Power Engineer to join our team at our Cold Lake, AB operations. As a key member of our power engineering team, you will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing critical power generation, distribution, and steam systems in a highly demanding oil & gas production environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in power systems, boiler operations, and troubleshooting, and will be committed to ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Power Generation & Distribution:
    • Operate and maintain electrical, steam, and mechanical systems, including boilers, turbines, compressors, and generators.
    • Monitor and troubleshoot power generation and distribution systems to ensure reliable performance and maximum uptime.
    • Perform scheduled maintenance, inspections, and repairs on all power equipment in accordance with company standards.
    • Manage and optimize power distribution to various systems across the facility, ensuring continuous and uninterrupted operations.
  • Boiler Operations:
    • Oversee the operation of steam boilers, including startup, shutdown, and operational adjustments.
    • Ensure proper fuel usage, water treatment, and combustion efficiency.
    • Maintain and troubleshoot steam systems to optimize performance and prevent downtime.
  • Safety & Compliance:
    • Adhere to all safety policies, procedures, and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements (ASME, CSA, TSSA, etc.).
    • Perform safety checks, audits, and risk assessments on power systems and equipment.
  • Troubleshooting & Problem Solving:
    • Quickly identify issues and resolve problems with power systems, minimizing operational downtime.
    • Work with other engineering teams to diagnose and address complex technical challenges.
    • Propose and implement continuous improvement strategies for system performance.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all equipment inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
    • Complete regular reports on system performance, incidents, and preventative maintenance activities.
    • Assist in preparing maintenance schedules and budgets.
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Work closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of power systems into overall facility operations.
    • Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers and technicians.
Qualifications
  • Education:
    • 1st Class Power Engineering Certificate from a recognized institution.
    • Valid Alberta Power Engineer 1st Class License.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a 1st Class Power Engineer in an industrial setting, preferably in the oil & gas, petrochemical, or power generation industries.
    • Experience with high-pressure steam boilers, turbines, electrical systems, and compressors is required.
    • Strong knowledge of power generation, boiler operations, and mechanical systems.
  • Skills:
    • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills in power generation and steam systems.
    • Proficient in computer-based systems for monitoring and controlling power generation operations.
    • Solid understanding of electrical and mechanical safety procedures.
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to report technical information clearly and concisely.
    • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
