Position Overview

Under the direction of the District Mental Health and Addictions Services Manager, the Travelling Adult Mental Health and Addictions Worker will be based in the city of Thunder Bay, with regular travel to district First Nation communities. The primary focus will be coordination and delivery of programing to designated First Nations based on consultation and identified needs. The Travelling Adult Mental Health and Addiction Worker is also responsible for providing specialized mental health counselling services. This includes the provision of treatment plans and counselling services for clients, ensuring regular, appropriate documentation on all clinical files; regular conferencing/reviews of relevant cases; evaluating system effectiveness and recommending necessary changes; ensuring the current developmental, treatment, and psycho-social needs of clients are met by participating in the provision of assessment, counselling, and referrals. A primary responsibility is to increase early identification of mental health problems and mental disorders and deliver programing suited to those needs that is consistent with the philosophy, policies, and standards established by Dilico Anishinabek Family Care.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • A minimum two-year Addictions or Social Work Diploma or a Diploma in a related field is required. A three-year BSW Degree is preferred.
  • minimum three years’ experience in the field of addictions is required;
  • a combination of training and experience in working with the Anishinabek; knowledge of Anishinabek culture, tradition and teachings;
  • experience in group facilitation.
  • satisfactory Criminal Records Search; including a Vulnerable Sector Check;
  • ability to work flexible hours (evening/weekend work required) as determined by the Addictions Services Manager in relation to service requirements;
  • must posses a Class "G" Driver’s License and must have access to a personal vehicle;
  • extensive travel in the district is required.

Hours of Work:32.5 hours per week
