Job summary

Wellington Catholic District School Board is seeking a 100% permanent Educational Assistant for St Joseph Catholic Elementary School in Fergus. The role is a 35-hour work week (7 hours/day) with an anticipated ASAP start date and a 10-month duration (2nd position).

Under the supervision of the principal and special education staff, the EA supports individual students or groups and assists with IEP development, daily living tasks, and confidentiality in a caring, professional environment.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting students with diverse needs in a school setting.
• Ability to contribute to the development and monitoring of IEPs and individual education plans.
• Experience collaborating with teachers and resource staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist in development, implementation and reporting of the IEP for exceptional students.
• Support students with activities of daily living, including meals, hygiene, and mobility as needed.
• Provide supervision and help with transitions during lunch and in the classroom.

100% Permanent Educational Assistant – 10 MONTHS (2nd Position)

Location: St Joseph Catholic Elementary School, Fergus

Anticipated start date : ASAP

35 hours per week (7 hours/day)

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the principal, the classroom teacher, and in consultation with the special education resource teacher, the educational assistant works with individual students or groups as identified through the site-based special education team.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

The educational assistant assists in a caring, sensitive, and professional manner, with exceptional students in achieving personal, social, academic, and physical development, while maintaining strict confidentiality for staff and students. The educational assistant:

• assists in the development, implementation and reporting of the individual education plan (IEP) for exceptional students or those deemed to be exceptional, as requested.
• students may also require assistance with one or more of the following: eating, hygiene, washroom routines, physical exercise, communication, life skills, and lunch hour supervision. Further aspects of the position are outlined in the job description.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Applicants will be considered who:

• have experience as an educational assistant with the board.
• have completed 2 years post-secondary education in fields related to the development of children and/or special education (i.e. educational assistant program certificate, early childhood educator diploma).
