MindCapture is seeking an Associate Agronomist to support innovative wheat breeding activities and operate a mature breeding pipeline. You will generate breeding populations in greenhouse environments and coordinate with breeders and multidisciplinary teams.

In Ghent you will perform plant evaluations, crossing, seed processing, genotyping support, data reporting and manage breeding materials, while developing new MRI methods for material characterisation and supporting imaging-based research.

Qualifications

• Education: Training in agriculture, biology or equivalent relevant professional experience.
• Breeding experience: Professional experience in cereal breeding and applied plant research.
• Greenhouse knowledge: Experience with greenhouse activities, plant growth protocols and crop protection.
• Practical breeding skills: Experience performing crosses, harvesting spikes and processing seeds.
• Laboratory knowledge: Knowledge of common agricultural and laboratory procedures.
• Technical aptitude: Ability to handle, modify and adapt relevant equipment.
• Experimental skills: Experience designing and executing experiments.
• Digital skills: Intermediate computer skills with motivation to learn new digital breeding tools.
• Analytical skills: Ability to analyse, review and summarise data effectively.
• Communication: English and Dutch language proficiency.

Responsabilités

• Greenhouse activities: Plan and execute greenhouse activities for parental line development with limited supervision
• Plant evaluation: Grow and evaluate plants and seed samples according to agreed procedures
• Climate management: Set environmental parameters, monitor plant growth and document development
• Crossing activities: Perform crossing activities, harvest plant material and process seeds in a timely manner
• Genotyping support: Plan and execute leaf or seed sampling for genetic analysis
• Plant assessment: Evaluate phenological characteristics and plant diseases
• Data management: Assemble breeding data, maintain records and report results in a timely manner
• Seed management: Manage seed storage inventory and coordinate shipments
• Equipment support: Troubleshoot and maintain equipment used for seed evaluation and processing
• Collaboration: Coordinate with local teams and other functions on greenhouse, technical and safety activities
