Job Description

The Engineering & Property Services (E&PS) department is the backbone of our critical infrastructure, leading all aspects of the design, operation, and maintenance of buildings, HVAC systems, utilities, and installations across our sites in Belgium. This includes centralized production and distribution systems, as well as chemical and pharmaceutical production and R&D facilities.

Our mission at E&PS is to safely manage the infrastructure lifecycle with reliability, sustainability, and efficiency. We strive to build an outstanding workplace experience while contributing to the global Facilities organization through knowledge sharing and expertise.

J&J IM is recruiting for a Utility Process Engineering role reporting to the Manager Process Engineering and to be based in Geel, Belgium.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as an independent engineer within large and difficult projects in several operating areas (utilities, facilities, energy, environment), thereby contributing actively to safety, quality, sustainability, operational reliability, and energy efficiency of the installations.
  • Assure compliance with existing and new (J&J) standards and legislation: identify and scope opportunities for improvement and follow through on realization. Ensure that GxP requirements applicable to the systems and installations in the project are met.
  • Coordinate ad-hoc multidisciplinary teams to optimize new and existing systems and processes from a safety, quality, energy, economic and environmental perspective.
  • Prepare business cases and present the projects to senior management.
  • Support the Base Business Capital Planning process by forecasting budget needs.
  • Perform and coordinate process scoping, technical studies, and utility and energy system projects, leveraging both internal expertise and external consultants to deliver robust and sustainable solutions.
  • Build a broad network to own and handle all technical and non-technical challenges regarding our utility systems.
Experience and Skills
  • A Master level engineering degree or equivalent through experience (energy, civil, mechanical, electrical, industrial).
  • Experience in the chemical, pharmaceutical or other highly regulated industry in an operational role (maintenance, engineering, process engineering, prevention).
  • A broad multidisciplinary knowledge (process techniques, renewables, combustion techniques, electricity, mechanics, hydraulics, thermodynamics, heat-cold technology, automation, environmental technologies).
  • Technical scientific and cGxP knowledge in the field of facilities, infrastructure, energy and utilities, water systems and HVAC, compliance, and legislation (pressure equipment, VLAREM).
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience in a strong regulated environment.
  • Capabilities to work on short- and long-term projects, transitions, innovations and changes.
  • Comfortable working in a pressurized environment on a project basis as well as independently in the context of bold timelines.
  • Effective communication skills in written and spoken Dutch and English.
  • Financial knowledge, such as an in-depth understanding of cost-benefit and life cycle cost analyses.
