Elia Group is seeking a Technical Designer E&I Standards in a hybrid role in Belgium. You will design and check standard electrical diagrams, monitor supplier drawings and participate in FAT tests, coordinating with manufacturers to ensure compliant, documented designs.

You will bring an electrical engineering degree with 5+ years in facilities, protection or automation, plus strong AutoCAD and Windows Office skills, and fluency in Dutch/French with English.

Technical Designer E&I Standards

Function

The Grid Expertise and Standards Department consists of highly qualified and experienced professionals who are keen to use their expertise for the benefit of our infrastructure projects, ensuring that our assets are installed safely and reliably and operate flawlessly.

Our department is committed to implementing the latest technologies and industry best practices in order to continuously improve the performance and efficiency of our transmission system. We work closely with other Elia Group departments, external stakeholders (specifically manufacturers, engineering firms and contractors), as well as other transmission system operators, universities and organisations such as CIGRE, to ensure that our specifications and templates are in line with market requirements and comply with all relevant standards.

As an E&I Standards Technical Designer, you will work in the Grid Expertise & Standards – Secondary Systems – Design & Typicals team.

Secondary systems are the 'intelligent nervous system' of the high-voltage grid. They allow the grid to be:

• accurately measured;
• protected;
• controlled; and
• remotely monitored.

Specific examples include:

• low-voltage (LV) protection cubicles;
• relay and protection systems;
• control and automation systems (RTUs, DCSs, SCADA interfaces).

Before these systems are installed on site, they must be thoroughly tested at the manufacturer's premises. These tests are performed during the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and are crucial to ensuring the reliability of the grid.

The E&I Standards Technical Designer's responsibilities include:

• checking and designing standard schematic diagrams for Elia investment projects (schematic diagrams include a logic diagram, current and voltage circuits, and a functional electrical diagram);
• monitoring the manufacturer diagrams produced by our suppliers;
• where necessary, participating in acceptance tests of electrical equipment at our manufacturers' premises;
• drawing up standard schematic diagrams based on design notes, standards, and approved equipment and methodologies;
• managing their own schedule in line with priorities and deliverables.

Your Profile

• Associate degree/bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in electrical engineering, electronics or automation
• At least five years' experience of electrical facilities, protection systems, automation or industrial schematic engineering
• A good knowledge of AutoCAD
• Knowledge of Windows Office applications
• Fluent Dutch and/or French, plus a good knowledge of English, given the frequent contact with international suppliers
• A willingness to learn the profession, with a view to eventually achieving a high and specialised level of expertise
• Confident, assertive communicator with a customer-focused approach, who values team spirit and has a solution-oriented mindset
• Ability to work independently, in an organised and proactive way, with responsibility for achieving the desired results
• A quality-focused, careful and meticulous approach to work
• An interest in new technologies within a fast-changing environment that addresses future challenges
• Skills and/or experience in delivering training courses or giving presentations
