Alstom is seeking a Base Software Developer to participate in the full development cycle of Base Software (BSw) for Traction electronics, following 50128 standards within national or international rail projects.

You will collaborate with Traction Control and Validation Engineers to design software modules, implement tests, and generate BSw builds, while ensuring quality and timely delivery across engineering sites.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in real-time software design and standard applications (RTOS preferred).
• Experience with formal SW development processes.
• Experience in module testing and V-cycle software development appreciated.
• Knowledge of command and control of technical systems.
• Experience with CAN, MVB, TrDP, CIP protocols.
• Basic knowledge of software configuration management tools (Clearcase/SVN/Git).
• Basic knowledge of electronic hardware design.
• Fluent French and English; Italian/Spanish appreciated.

Responsabilités

• Perform Base Software (BSw) development activities including architecture definition and requirements specifications.
• Collaborate with Traction Control and Validation Software Engineers on BSw modules and integrations.
• Document BSw outputs per project quality processes and support test activities.
• Coordinate project activities across engineering sites and with external partners.

Base Software Developer

Purpose of the Job

Participate to the complete development cycle of the Base Software (BSw) for Traction electronic, by assuring the works of design and test of the software for Command-Control, following the standard 50128 within the framework of national or international rail projects.

Collaborating with the Traction Control and Validation Software Engineers, the Base Software (BSw) Engineer design software module, realize integration activities, non-regression checks, generating a BSw build/version.

POSITION IN THE ORGANISATION

Objectives

Manage and responsibility of the assigned tasks (BSw functions/blocs implementation) in terms of quality and time. Documentation of the BSw produced according to the quality and processes adopted within the project. Sw module and integration testing.

Organisation Reporting

In the Services Engineering department - Engineering branch, the Base Software Developer works in the Software, Testers & Tools team.

Hierarchical reporting to Software Team Leader.

Functional reporting to Base Software Engineering Manager.

Network & Links

Internal:

• Interacts with the FPGA and Hardware Teams.
• Contact with other department in the site in case of specific Project needs (Traction Engineering team (TrSE, RAMS, Control, Validation Engineer…)

External:

Traction Alstom site, Manufacturing Alstom site

MISSIONS

Performance Measurement/KPI’s

• Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) indicators, for security of the persons, the properties and the environment, by applying the safety regulations of the company.
• Periodically followed-up by the Base Software Engineering Manager and the Software Team Leader.
• Control command & contractual software are accepted by customers (internal & final)
• Quality of the delivered work through the software development cycle, software anomalies report files and change request files.
• Respect and improve the costs allocated.
• Respect the delivery planning and follow-up the software development documents
• None non-compliances for delivery during Quality audits (IRIS, Certifer)
• Correct application of referenced evolution and software procedures
• Number of modification due to problem of coding (validation internal or tests,…)

Responsibilities

• Respect and apply the EHS rules
• Work on many projects and manage the priorities
• Accumulate Know-how for electronics dedicated to the control of railway energy power conversion sub-systems
• Perform BSw development activities, e.g. composed by
  • Conceptual definition of BSw architectures/functionalities (Standardisation)
  • BSw Requirements Specifications and Configuration history documentation
  • BSw Requirements Test Specifications
  • Performing engineering level Impact analysis
  • BSw source code
  • BSw Integration into train level architecture
  • BSw Validation for internal and external/homologation purposes
  • Coordination of project activities across engineering sites, if necessary.
• Perform Reliability Growth activities on systems in service
• Technical coordination / technical management of Co-Design activities with suppliers
• Perform planning / controlling of the technical activities
• Support of budgeting activities for offers
• Respect the QCD and update the indicators of software activity
• Participate to the design reviews

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Knowledge & Experience

• Experience of at least 2 years in real time software design and standard application (ultra RTOS appreciated).
• Experience with formal SW development processes
• Experience in module testing and V-life cycle software development appreciated
• Experience in the field of command and control of technical systems
• Knowledge in communication protocol (CAN, MVB, TrDP, CIP)
• Basic knowledge of software configuration management tools (Clearcase, SVN, Git, Clearquest)
• Basic knowledge about electronic Hw design
• Experience in the railway field appreciated
• Knowledge with Matlab / Simulink would be appreciated
• Knowledge in Requirements Management Tools (e.g. DOORS) appreciated
• Use of test and measurement devices such as testers, multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analysers
• Programming Languages: Deep knowledge of C language (MUST), C++ (Appreciated)
• Tools: DSP Texas Instruments Compilers

Matlab / Simulink appreciated

MS Office Tools (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
