BESIX is seeking an on-site Construction Engineer for the Oosterweel Link project in Antwerp. You will lead in-house teams and supervise subcontractors, ensuring execution plans are followed and safety, quality and environmental standards are met on a dynamic urban construction site.

The role emphasizes English as the sole working language in the project zone, strong collaboration, and proactive problem solving to drive productivity and timely project delivery within a multinational context.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering; 3–5 years of construction experience.
• Strong technical and practical insight with a sense of ownership and administrative discipline.
• Effective communicator with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Fluent in English (mandatory).
• Collaborative mindset with a proactive, solution-driven approach.

• Owns on‑site management of in‑house teams and subcontractors; acts as a key contact on site.
• Coordinates technical preparation of works and site activities in line with execution plans.
• Ensures safety, quality and environmental standards are respected by all stakeholders.
• Supports short‑term planning (daily/weekly); identifies optimization opportunities and monitors productivity.
• Reviews and validates invoice proposals from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Reports to the Site Manager / Project Manager and supports overall site coordination.

Job Description

About the project – Oosterweel Link (Antwerp)

The Oosterweel Link is one of the largest and most ambitious infrastructure projects in Europe, aimed at completing the Antwerp Ring Road and significantly improving mobility in and around the city. The project includes the construction of major infrastructure works such as the Scheldt Tunnel, the Oosterweel interchange, and the Canal Tunnels, creating a direct connection between the left and right banks of the river Scheldt.

Beyond mobility, the project focuses on enhancing quality of life by reducing traffic congestion, improving road safety, and integrating the Ring into the urban environment through tunnels, green zones, and new public spaces.

Within this programme, the ROCO consortium is responsible for the largest section on the right bank of Antwerp, including the construction of the Canal Tunnels and the transformation of the existing Ring into a modern, partly sunken infrastructure.

For this specific position, you will be working in a dedicated project zone where English is the sole working language. All on‑site communication, coordination, and reporting within this zone are conducted entirely in English.

• You take ownership of managing in‑house teams and overseeing subcontractors, acting as a key point of contact on site.
• You contribute to the technical preparation of the works and coordinate site activities in line with execution plans.
• You actively ensure that safety, quality, and environmental standards are respected by all stakeholders.
• You support the preparation of short‑term planning (daily/weekly), identify optimisation opportunities, and monitor productivity on site.
• You review and validate invoice proposals from subcontractors and suppliers.
• You report directly to the Site Manager / Project Manager and play an active role in the overall site coordination.

Qualifications

• You hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering and bring at least 3–5 years of experience within the construction sector, ideally in civil works.
• You combine strong technical and practical insight with a solid sense of ownership and administrative discipline.
• You are an effective communicator with strong interpersonal and organisational skills, enabling you to give clear guidance and align teams on site.
• You are fluent in English (mandatory), as you will be working in a project zone where English is the sole working language.
