Faktion & Crius Group in Belgium seeks a Senior Java Engineer to lead backend development and architecture within an enterprise‑scale environment. You will mentor teammates, drive design decisions, and partner with AI/ML, product, and business stakeholders to deliver robust, scalable solutions.

The role emphasizes Spring, REST APIs, and cloud deployments (Azure/AWS) with a strong focus on code quality, testing, and automation. A hybrid workplace is offered.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of hands-on Java backend development experience delivering enterprise-grade applications.
• Strong knowledge of Java, OOP, concurrency, and software architecture.
• Experience with RESTful APIs, Spring ecosystem, and modern backend patterns.

Responsabilités

• Lead design, development, and deployment of scalable backend applications built on Java and Spring.
• Collaborate with AI/ML teams, PMs, and stakeholders to translate requirements into robust software.
• Establish maintenance standards and contribute to system monitoring and performance optimization.
• Coach junior developers and promote technical excellence and best practices.
• Drive decision making on architectures and new technologies; ensure documentation quality.

We are looking for a Senior Java Engineer to join our dynamic team, provide technical leadership. As we are building enterprise‑grade, production‑deployed applications, we are looking for an experienced engineer who can guide the development of robust, secure, and scalable backend systems while mentoring team members.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and deployment of high‑quality software architecture for complex, scalable backend applications built on Java and the Spring ecosystem.
• Collaborate closely with AI and ML engineers, Product Managers, and Business Stakeholders to translate complex requirements into efficient, high‑quality software solutions.
• Contribute to and help define maintenance standards across projects ranging from new applications and functionalities to complex cross‑project developments.
• You know how to test your software using JUnit, Mockito, ... You have experience setting up automated integration tests using Postman or other libraries.
• Lead code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and ensure code quality, maintainability, and scalability.
• Ensure comprehensive documentation of architectural decisions, development phases, and system designs; contribute to system monitoring, performance optimization, and incident resolution.
• Coach and mentor junior developers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Drive technical innovation, evaluate and recommend new technologies, and promote best practices within the engineering team.

Additional qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in native Dutch and English (French is a plus).
• BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (MSc is a plus).
• Minimum 8 years of hands‑on experience in Java backend development, with a proven track record delivering enterprise‑grade applications.
• Strong knowledge of Java and the pillars of OOP. You know when and how to apply concurrency. You are inspired by Robert C. Martin.
• Strong experience with RESTful API design and development, and with REST/SOAP services and XML/JSON integrations.
• Proficiency with Maven and/or Gradle.
• Solid understanding of application architecture patterns such as layered architecture, microservices, and event‑driven systems.
• Strong experience with the Spring ecosystem, including Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data, and Spring Security.
• Good knowledge of Hibernate/JPA.
• Experience deploying and managing applications on Azure and/or AWS, and with enterprise application servers such as JBoss, WildFly, WebSphere, or Oracle Middleware, and runtimes such as Tomcat.
• Comfortable with application deployment, configuration, and runtime behaviour in production environments.
• Experience with API‑driven integrations and messaging patterns, and a solid understanding of distributed and event‑driven architectures.
• Strong grasp of testing principles and practices, with experience establishing comprehensive testing strategies (unit, integration, end‑to‑end).
• Exceptional analytical mind with strong problem‑solving aptitude and the ability to tackle complex technical challenges and make sound architectural decisions.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions) and containerization/orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor junior developers, fostering a collaborative and productive environment.
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

Following experiences are a plus

• Familiarity with AI‑assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot.
• Basic understanding of AI/ML services and API integrations, and the ability to assess AI‑generated solutions from a quality, security, and maintainability perspective.
• Hands‑on experience with AI technologies, including integrating AI models into applications or working with AI‑driven product features.
• Familiarity with data processing, MLOps, and machine learning concepts and workflows.
• Prior experience in software startups and corporate environments, providing balanced strategic insights.
• Active contributions to open‑source projects or strong engagement with the tech community.
