When Europe writes its digital rules, we are in the room. Our teams is a trusted advisor to Commissioners, Ministers and CEOs.

Key Responsibilities & Job Description

While advertised at Senior Manager level, the role may be appointed at a more senior level depending on the successful candidate’s experience, expertise and overall profile.

As Senior Communications Manager, you will help turn DIGITALEUROPE’s priorities and fast-moving political, business and geopolitical developments into compelling communications opportunities. This is a senior, hands-on role combining campaign communications, media engagement, content creation and executive profile building. You will work closely with our policy, outreach and events teams and act as a trusted communications partner to the Director General.

Substantial people management is not expected; you will lead through expertise, ideas and influence. Your responsibilities include:

  • Executive communications and profile building: Strengthen the profiles of DIGITALEUROPE and its Director General through thought leadership, television interviews, articles and coverage in tier-one international media such as the BBC, CNN, Euronews, the Financial Times and Politico. Build the Director General’s social-media profile and develop stakeholder, media and communications plans around key engagements, speeches, media appearances, conferences and international travel.
  • News and opportunity spotting: Closely follow political, business, geopolitical and technology developments, proactively identifying relevant opportunities for DIGITALEUROPE and its Director General to contribute to the public debate.
  • Content and storytelling: Translate complex digital-policy and business topics into clear, engaging communications for political, business, media and wider audiences. Write and edit speeches, talking points, op-eds, press materials, articles and social-media content.
  • Media and networks: Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, event organisers and other influential stakeholders, proactively identifying opportunities that place our organisation and the DG in the right conversations, publications, events and networks.
  • Collaboration and impact: Work across policy, outreach, projects and events to ensure coherent messaging and bring colleagues’ expertise to wider audiences. Select the right mix of media, events, digital channels and stakeholder engagement, and measure and improve their impact.
  • Digital and AI-enabled communications: Use AI and emerging tools confidently and responsibly across research, monitoring, ideation, drafting, design, video editing and content adaptation, while maintaining accuracy, sound judgement and originality.
What you bring
  • Experience: Significant experience working with and advising senior executive leaders, together with deep experience in strategic communications, media relations, public affairs, journalism or a related field, including designing and delivering communications strategies for complex, high-profile topics.
  • Sector knowledge: Relevant experience in technology, digital policy, business, an industry association or a closely related sector, with a strong understanding of the European policy and business environment, as well as wider geopolitical developments.
  • Communication skills: Native-level command of spoken and written English, with exceptional writing, editing and presentation skills. You are a confident and engaging communicator who can build trust internally and represent the organisation effectively with senior external audiences.
  • Policy translation: Ability to understand complex policy issues quickly and explain them simply, accurately and persuasively to different audiences.
  • Executive counsel: Experience building the profile of an executive leader, with the confidence to provide constructive advice and adapt quickly to emerging priorities.
  • Professional network: A strong network—or demonstrated ability to build one—across relevant media, policy, business and event communities.
  • Judgement and execution: Strong strategic and reputational judgement, combined with a solutions-oriented approach and willingness to deliver work personally in a fast-moving environment.
  • Digital and AI fluency: Practical proficiency with generative AI and emerging communications tools, and the ability to identify smarter ways of working while maintaining high professional standards.
  • Working style: Creative, curious, collaborative and outcomes-focused, with excellent organisational skills and openness to others’ ideas and feedback. Enthusiasm and availability for regular international travel are essential.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel within Europe and internationally for up to 80 days per year and, when necessary, to work extended hours.
