NATO is seeking an Operator, Technical Security to join the Protective Security & Emergency Service Branch (PSESB) within the Joint Intelligence and Security Division (JISD). You will perform technical security tasks, develop and maintain technical security regulations, and support activities such as TSCM and TSIs.
You will operate IPMS, active countermeasures and provide technical security advice to stakeholders while maintaining SOPs in line with NATO Security Policies.

The Joint Intelligence and Security Division (JISD) has two main missions: to provide strategic intelligence to NATO HQ decision makers and to protect NATO’s personnel, information and physical assets. The Intelligence pillar, comprising military and civilian personnel, ensures situational awareness of the North Atlantic Council (NAC), the Military Committee (MC) and senior‑level decision‑makers on strategic issues. Its functional areas cover intelligence analysis and production, intelligence policy, and intelligence capability development. The Security pillar coordinates NATO security among member nations, NATO civil and military bodies, international organisations and partner countries, and protects NATO Headquarters, its personnel, information and physical assets, including the Secretary General.
As Operator, Technical Security within the Protective Security & Emergency Service Branch (PSESB) of the JISD, you will perform technical security tasks and missions, develop and maintain technical security regulations, and support activities such as Technical Surveillance Counter Measures (TSCM) and Technical Security Inspections (TSIs). You will operate In‑Place Monitoring Systems (IPMS), active countermeasures and provide technical security advice to stakeholders while maintaining, updating and complying with SOPs in line with NATO Security Policies. Flexibility to work outside normal hours and occasional travel is required.
Planning and Execution Implement technical security measures according to work plans and SOPs, manage timeframes, promote continuous improvement and maintain professionalism.
Stakeholder Management Establish and preserve good working relationships with relevant counterparts and internal customers, communicate disruptions and key findings.
Information Management Monitor equipment and tool lifecycles, report technical issues, handle sensitive information in line with NATO Security Policy.
Expertise Development Maintain and enhance technical security knowledge through training, exercises, and collaboration with colleagues and national delegation teams; promote knowledge sharing.
Perform any other related duties as assigned.
The Operator, Technical Security reports directly to the Head, Technical Security.
Work closely with other JISD sections, particularly within PSESB, the Security Policy Oversight Branch, the International Staff, delegations, missions, military representations and agencies on the NATO HQ compound.
Definite duration contract of three years, with possibility of an indefinite contract thereafter.
For non‑seconded staff, it is a three‑year definite contract that may be followed by an indefinite contract. For seconded staff, a three‑year definite contract may be renewed for up to three additional years with national‑authority agreement, maximum service period six years. Serving staff receive a contract under the NATO Civilian Personnel Regulations. Twin‑graded posts are appointed at the lower grade; advancement to the higher grade is not automatic and normally does not occur during the first three years of service.
Under specific circumstances, serving staff may be appointed directly to the higher grade, reducing the period to three years by up to twenty‑four months for external candidates, as described in the IS directive on twin‑graded posts.
