MLex is seeking an exceptional Managing Editor – Europe to lead editorial operations across Europe, including teams in London and Brussels. The role provides strategic leadership and direction to reporters and editors to deliver exclusive, agenda-setting journalism.

You will oversee recruitment, talent development, and collaboration with global newsroom teams, ensuring strong performance and publishing high-quality reporting on regulatory risk across Europe and the UK.

About The Role

As Managing Editor – Europe, you will lead MLex’s editorial operations across Europe, overseeing teams based in London and Brussels. You will provide strategic leadership and operational direction to a large team of reporters and editors, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, exclusive journalism while supporting editorial excellence, talent development, and collaboration across the global newsroom.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the day-to-day editorial operations of the European newsroom, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality, exclusive and agenda-setting journalism.
  • Set clear editorial expectations, monitor newsroom performance and ensure effective planning across reporters, editors and specialist teams.
  • Develop and implement operational plans that maximise editorial resources, improve productivity and support sustainable newsroom growth.
  • Foster collaboration across global MLex teams to identify opportunities for cross-border reporting and knowledge sharing.
  • Provide leadership on recruitment, succession planning, employee engagement, performance management and professional development.
  • Represent MLex internally and externally, strengthening relationships with stakeholders, industry contacts and partner organisations.
  • Support innovation and continuous improvement through the adoption of new technologies, streamlined workflows and performance measurement.
  • Act as MLex's representative for legal and contractual matters in Belgium, including property lease and employment law matters, working closely with LexisNexis Facilities on office management and maintenance issues.
Requirements
  • Exceptional editorial leadership combined with outstanding communication and people management skills.
  • Ability to make sound editorial decisions under pressure while balancing speed, accuracy and quality across multiple coverage areas.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, allocate resources effectively and lead complex editorial operations across multiple locations.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, building productive relationships with journalists, senior executives and cross-functional teams across LexisNexis.
  • Sound commercial awareness and an understanding of how high-value journalism supports subscriber engagement and business objectives.
  • Confidence using editorial technologies, data and performance metrics to improve newsroom productivity and content quality.
  • Substantial experience in senior editorial leadership within a professional news organisation, ideally covering legal, regulatory, competition, technology, financial or public policy issues across Europe and the UK.
  • Extensive knowledge of European institutions, UK government and regulatory frameworks, with a deep understanding of issues relevant to MLex subscribers.

Primary Location Base Pay Range: Belgium - Brussels (Rue de la Loi) €90,200 - €150,700. This role is covered by the PC 200/ CP 200 Paritair Comité (Dutch) / Commission Paritaire (French)
