Denys NV in Gent (Wondelgem) is seeking a Legal Counsel to work closely with the business on complex construction, infrastructure and energy projects across Europe. You will combine contract law, public procurement, risk management and pragmatic legal advice in an international project environment.

You will become part of the Legal department to support activities in Belgium and throughout Europe, reviewing contracts, drafting documents and negotiating with clients and subcontractors.

Qualifications

• Belgian Master in Law degree.
• Combines legal precision with a pragmatic, business-oriented approach.
• Comfort with analyzing complex contracts and communicating with engineers and project teams.
• Fluent in Dutch (spoken and written) and fluent in English and French.

Your Role

As Legal Counsel at Denys, you will work close to the business on complex construction, infrastructure and energy projects, combining contract law, public procurement, risk management and pragmatic legal advice in an international project environment.

You will become part of the Legal department of Denys NV in Gent (Wondelgem) and will support our activities in Belgium but also throughout Europe.

You will have the following responsibilities:

• Review and suggest modifications to contracts and tender guidelines for bids.

• Evaluate contractual risks, and attempt to mitigate.

• Draft contracts as well as other legal documents.

• Negotiate with clients, partners and subcontractors.

• Manage contracts from a legal perspective.

• Follow-up of litigation, arbitration and/or ADR procedures in Belgium or abroad.

• Provide general legal advice to our teams.

• Ensure the compliance of the company's practices with regulations.

Your Profile

• You have a Belgian Master in Law degree.

• You are someone who combines legal precision with a pragmatic, business-oriented approach.

• You are comfortable analyzing complex contracts, communicating with engineers and project teams, dealing with technically challenging files, and taking ownership of your work.

• You have well-developed communication skills, and are able to work fluently in Dutch, both orally and in writing, and are fluent in English and French.

• You have at least 3 years of relevant experience in one or more of the following areas:

1. PPS / PPP projects (in particular DBFM-contracts) or other integrated contracts such as D&B, EPC or DBM.

2. Belgian public procurement during the execution phase. Knowledge of the “algemene uitvoeringsregels van de overheidsopdrachten” / “règles générales d'exécution des marchés publics”.

3. Belgian private construction law.

4. Belgian public procurement during the tender phase.

5. International construction contracts (in particular FIDIC or NEC4).

Experience in several of these areas is a strong asset, but not a requirement.
