VITO is seeking an Edge Data Processing and Software Engineer to develop data science and ML algorithms for on-board processing of remote sensing data on satellites, drones and edge platforms. You will work across sensor data acquisition, processing and product generation, building robust software infrastructure and tooling.

You will collaborate with data science, software, hardware and remote sensing teams and contribute to customer projects.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a relevant field (Data Science, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Space Systems Engineering).
• Experience with data science, ML, image processing, or scientific data processing.
• Proven track record of building maintainable, testable software for embedded systems.
• Strong interest in embedded compute architectures (GPU/TPU/SoC).
• Excellent English; Dutch is a plus.

Responsabilités

• Develop and implement data science and ML algorithms for on-board processing of remote sensing data.
• Contribute to end-to-end data processing pipelines from sensor data to data products.
• Develop supporting software infrastructure, including interfaces, automated testing, CI/CD, logging and deployment tooling.

• Contribute to technical documentation per space software standards.

The Remote Sensing Unit of VITO celebrated last year its 25th anniversary, but Remote Sensing has never been more fascinating than today. The Applied GeoAI and Embedded Solutions (AGES) team develops robust AI-driven solutions that power remote sensing, environmental monitoring, and security applications worldwide.

The Edge Data Processing and Software Engineer will work on a variety of applications in the fields of environmental monitoring and security, utilizing the latest technologies to develop solutions that address the unique challenges and opportunities of each domain.

Your responsibilities:

• Develop and implement data science and machine learning algorithms for on-board processing of remote sensing data on satellites, drones and other resource constrained edge platforms.
• Contribute to end-to-end data processing pipelines, from sensor data acquisition and on-board processing to useful data products.
• Develop supporting software infrastructure, including data interfaces, automated testing, CI/CD, logging and deployment tooling.
• Collaborate with data science, software, hardware and remote sensing teams, and contribute to customer projects.
• Contribute to technical documentation in accordance with applicable space software standards.

Requirements:

• Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Space Systems Engineering or a related field.
• Experience with data science, machine learning, image processing or scientific data processing through work, research or academic projects.
• Proven track record of building maintainable and testable software for embedded systems.
• Good knowledge and strong interest in keeping up-to-date with embedded compute architectures (GPU/TPU/SoC).
• Team player, strong analytical and problem-solving skills and an eagerness to learn.
• Excellent command of English; Dutch is a plus.

Preferred qualifications:

• Satellite, drone or airborne image processing.
• On-board or edge processing of sensor data.
• CI/CD, automated testing and container technologies.
• GIS and spatial data analysis.
