DEME Group's engineering teams seek a Data Scientist who will grow step by step into a key role supporting our worldwide projects. You won't be expected to know everything from day one; you’ll learn by doing, supported by experienced engineers and data scientists.

You will transform and analyze large-scale sensor and geospatial datasets, challenge physics-based models with hybrid ML and probabilistic methods, and help projects—from tender through preparation to execution—make smarter predictions

Qualifications

• Interest in physical engineering domains such as dredging, offshore construction, geotechnics or hydrodynamics.
• Degree (or final-year student) in Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
• Basic to intermediate coding skills in Python and/or SQL.
• Understanding of how data is stored and structured, and willingness to learn databases and data modules.
• Curiosity about machine learning and statistical methods and how they apply to real-world problems.
• Interest in working with physical data (sensor readings, geospatial data).

Responsabilités

• Work with large engineering datasets, including sensor data and geospatial data, and learn to clean, structure and analyze them.
• Support the development of data-driven models that help predict vessel performance, fuel consumption, soil behaviour and production rates.
• Learn how engineering assumptions and physical models work, and gradually challenge and improve them using data analysis and machine learning techniques.
• Experiment with Python- and SQL-based solutions, translating engineering questions into working code and reproducible analyses.
• Assist in building and improving databases and data pipelines, including spatial data storage and querying.
• Contribute to geospatial analysis and probabilistic thinking, understanding how location and variability influence engineering decisions.
• Collaborate closely with engineers from dredging, geotechnics, hydrodynamics and learn to communicate data insights clearly and pragmatically.
• Support projects worldwide across tender, preparation and execution phases, helping teams make better predictions and informed decisions.
