EMW in Mons, Belgium is seeking a Linux Engineer to install, monitor and secure Unix/Linux systems in support of NCIRC/NCSC operations. You will manage user issues, changes, and incident response while aligning with NATO security requirements.

The role requires hands-on administration of RHEL, Ansible, virtualization (VMware), and strong scripting skills. Travel to NATO sites may be required, and a NATO SECRET clearance is mandatory.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field and 1+ year Linux Engineer experience.
  • 1+ year Linux server administration including RHEL installations and maintenance.
  • Experience with Ansible and scripting.
  • Knowledge of security best practices in Linux environments.

Responsabilités

  • Install and monitor Linux/Unix systems according to NCIRC NCSC.
  • Resolve user issues and address change management requests.
  • Support feature rollouts and deployments inside the NCIRC perimeter.
  • Create documentation for configurations and policies.
  • Develop and maintain O&M SOPs and testing strategies.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot Linux-related issues within the NCSC environment.

Duties & Role:

As Linux Engineer, the incumbent will be responsible for installing and monitor Unix/Linux open-source operating systems and specific apps according to NCIRC NCSC. The Linux Engineer will be responsible also for resolving user issues, address change management requests, and identifies potential issues by implementing protective and security measures.

The Linux Engineer reports to the Linux Cell head/Section head, Enable Section to support underlying platforms and supporting engineers within Infrastructure Branch

Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Contribute to a team responsible for the availability, scalability, and performance of NCSC environment and tools such as Splunk, MISP and others
  • Maintain and develop custom systems and tools to improve ability to test, integrate, automate and effectively monitor custom and commercial applications in NCSC Linux environment;
  • Support the Initiation, preparation, follow-up and defence of the specialist applications upgrades in front of the Change Management Board.
  • Assist in the rollout and deployment of new features and installations inside the NCIRC perimeter
  • Create extensive documentation for current and future configuration processes and policies;
  • Develop and maintain O&M Standard Operating Procedures for developed capabilities, implementing testing strategies and document results.
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots problems inside NCSC environment related to Linux O/S's and their integration with the rest of infrastructure (e.g. AD Domain, SSO solution, web solution, Log Aggregation)
  • Generate solutions to complex problems which integrate into NCSC environment
  • Identify issues and create improvement processes to help with the reduction of incidents / outage times
  • Work with Service Management team on standard operating procedures including Incident, Problem and Change Management to ensure the monitoring of the systems

Specific Working Conditions: Out of hours working might be required to support established maintenance activities. Exceptionally may be contacted during out-of-hours periods to support delivery of critical services

Travel required: Travel may be required to NATO site locations to support troubleshooting of devices. Up to two (2) days of travel to NATO locations within Belgium are foreseen for this requirement. Such travel shall be considered commuting and will not be treated or reimbursed as Temporary Duty (TDY).

Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

  • The candidate must have a currently active NATO SECRET security clearance
  • Essential to have a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science combined with a minimum of 1 year experience as Linux Engineer or similar position.
  • A minimum requirement of a Bachelor's degree at a nationally recognised/certified University in a related discipline and 1 years post-related experience;
  • 1-year Experience with Linux server administration, including installation, configuration, and maintenance of servers specifically on RHEL;
  • Software engineering skills including programming and/or scripting knowledge;
  • Experience with Ansible.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as VMWARE
  • Understanding of security best practices and experience in implementing security measures on Linux systems (e.g., firewalls, encryption, access control).
  • Candidate holds/has held Red Hat certifications. Priority will be given to candidates with both Administrator and Engineer related Red Hat certifications.

Desirable:

  • Experience with Red Hat Satellite and packaging
  • Good knowledge on Observability practices.
  • Experience with containerization tools like Podman and Docker.
  • Experience with Atlassian tools for tasks and documentation
  • Knowledge of virtualization on-premises (VMware is a plus)
  • Participation in the open-source community and contribution to relevant projects.
  • Prior experience of working in an international environment comprising both military and civilian elements
