The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) of KU Leuven has a vacancy for a full‑time academic position in Operations Management. The position is open to junior and senior researchers, and PhD students in the final phase of their studies may also apply. Depending on qualifications and experience, candidates will be hired as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or (Full) Professor, with a 5‑year tenure‑track appointment for junior researchers.

Duties

Research

You are an ambitious, internationally oriented researcher in Operations Management, publishing in top international journals, attracting external funding, developing research projects, and advising doctoral students. You strive for excellence, contributing to the reputation of the Faculty and KU Leuven, and pursue fundamental scientific research while exploring opportunities for the valorisation of findings.

Teaching

You will teach courses in Operations Management at the campuses in Leuven, Antwerp, Brussels and/or Kortrijk, tailoring assignments to your profile and experience. You contribute to the optimisation and continuous development of educational programmes, supervise bachelor’s and/or master’s theses, and start with limited teaching duties as a tenure‑track candidate. You develop teaching methods in line with KU Leuven’s research‑based approach, emphasizing active learning, and commit to upholding high standards of the programmes.

Service

You will integrate into the research group, actively participate in professional group activities, and undertake internal service duties, with limited service responsibilities for tenure‑track candidates. Your teaching and research activities are aimed at contributing to society and the broader social debate.

Profile

PhD or expected PhD before 01/07/2027 in Economics or Business with an emphasis on Operations Management, or a PhD in a related domain (e.g., supply chain management, operations research). Demonstrated research output or research potential through top‑tier publications, promising projects, and/or international experience is required. Junior applicants should show potential via their dissertation or job market paper and academic references. Grant‑proposal experience and a strong international network are recommended.

Evidence of strong didactical skills and preferably teaching experience in Operations Management is required, along with communication and organisational skills and teamwork. Research or teaching expertise in port logistics is a plus.

Excellent written and spoken English is required. The official administrative language at KU Leuven is Dutch; language training will be provided if needed prior to employment.

Offer

Full‑time position, initially requiring a clear commitment to the Leuven campus of the FEB. The successful candidate will join the Operations Management Research group and collaborate with colleagues at the Leuven and Brussels campuses. The Faculty enjoys high accreditation standards and a strong national and international network.
