Job summary

selectability - mental wellbeing and suicide prevention in Bowen is seeking a Youth Worker to join our growing team. The role provides accommodation and intensive support to children and young people with diverse needs, helping them live their best life in a safe, stable environment.

You will bring genuine passion, work across a 24/7 roster and collaborate with a compassionate team to promote recovery and well-being.

Qualifications

  • Cert IV qualification required or willing to study further under child safety standards.
  • Hope and Healing certification for residential care to be obtained on commencement.
  • Current P1 C class Queensland driver's licence.
  • Current roadworthy, fully comprehensive insured vehicle.
  • Current national first aid and CPR certificates, or able to obtain.
  • Child Safety & Personal History Screening check.
  • Positive Notice Working with Children (Blue Card) or able to obtain.
  • NDIS Worker Screening Clearance or ability to obtain.
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module 'Quality, Safety & You'.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accommodation and intensive support to children and young people with diverse needs.
  • Support residents to live their best life with stable, consistent teams.
  • Follow policies and procedures and maintain accurate records.
  • Work across a 24/7 roster and engage with diverse communities.
  • Promote child safety and trauma-informed, culturally safe practice.

To be successful you must:

  • possess clear and effective communication skills
  • demonstrate computer literacy and accuracy in record management
  • be able to always follow policies and procedures
  • be able to work with culturally and linguistically diverse communities and individuals
  • flexible to work across a 24/7 roster
Role requirements
  • must have a minimum of Cert IV qualification recognised under the child safety minimum qualification standards (or willing to actively study)
  • possess the certification in Hope and Healing for residential care (to be obtained upon commencement)
  • a current minimum P1 "C" class Queensland driver’s licence
  • a currently registered, roadworthy, and fully comprehensive insured vehicle
  • current nationally recognised first aid and CPR certificates (ability to obtain)
  • a Child Safety & Personal History Screening check

This role works directly with young people and requires the employee to actively demonstrate child safe, trauma-informed and culturally safe practice through daily interactions, decision-making, supervision, and documentation.

The successful applicant must demonstrate a commitment to child safe values and immediately report any concerns regarding harm, unsafe practice, abuse, and neglect.
