YMCA Brisbane is recruiting a Youth Work Advisor for Y Schools Queensland. The role is based in Fortitude Valley with regular travel to campuses, providing practice leadership, coaching and capability development to Youth Workers.

You will work with Senior Youth Workers and campus teams to strengthen trauma-aware, relational and strengths-based youth work across the network, contributing to student engagement and wellbeing outcomes.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years’ substantial experience in youth work practice.
• Demonstrated expertise in trauma-informed practice, strengths-based engagement, relational practice and youth development frameworks.
• Proven ability to provide practice leadership, coaching and mentoring to youth workers and/or multidisciplinary teams.
• Demonstrated ability to build the capability of others, influence practice across teams and contribute to positive organisational and team culture.
• Experience supporting young people with complex needs and engaging with families and communities.

Youth Work Advisor | Y Schools Queensland

Y Schools Queensland are recruiting a Youth Work Advisor on a Permanent Full-Time basis to join our team based in Fortitude Valley, with regular travel across Y Schools Queensland campuses.

As a Youth Work Advisor with Y Schools Queensland, you will provide practice leadership, coaching and capability development to Youth Workers across all Y Schools Queensland campuses.

This is a highly mobile role, with a significant proportion of your time spent visiting campuses, working alongside Youth Workers and campus teams, observing practice, providing coaching and supporting the consistent implementation of the Y Schools Youth Work Practice Framework.

You will work in close partnership with Senior Youth Workers, campus leadership teams and the Head of Wellbeing to strengthen high-quality, trauma-aware, relational and strengths-based youth work practice.

This role will help build the capability of our teams, strengthen positive culture and wellbeing practice, and ensure youth work contributes meaningfully to student engagement, belonging and wellbeing outcomes across Y Schools Queensland.

What will my time look like?

• Travel regularly across Y Schools Queensland campuses to provide on-site coaching, practice support, mentoring and capability development for Youth Workers and Senior Youth Workers.
• Provide youth work practice leadership across all campuses to support consistent, high-quality implementation of the Y Schools Youth Work Practice Framework within the broader Y Schools wellbeing model.
• Work alongside campus teams to observe practice, identify strengths and areas for development, and support continuous improvement in youth work practice.
• Coach, mentor and build the capability of Youth Workers and Senior Youth Workers, supporting reflective practice, professional growth and consistency across campuses.
• Support the consistent application of trauma-aware, strengths-based, relational and youth development approaches that strengthen student engagement, belonging and wellbeing.
• Foster a positive culture of wellbeing, relationships and collaborative practice across campuses, strengthening the capability of teams to respond effectively to the needs of young people.
• Strengthen culturally responsive and inclusive youth work practice, supporting teams to engage respectfully and effectively with young people, families and communities from diverse backgrounds.
• Support the development, delivery and consistency of the Body Mind Spirit (BMS) program and other student wellbeing and engagement initiatives across campuses.
• Contribute to whole-school wellbeing initiatives aligned with the Y Schools Youth Work Practice Framework, THRIVE Framework and broader Y Schools approach to wellbeing and belonging.
• Work collaboratively with the senior leadership team, campus leadership teams, wellbeing teams and school staff to strengthen integrated student support pathways and multidisciplinary practice.
• Support strong connections with families, community organisations and external services where these partnerships strengthen engagement, wellbeing and outcomes for young people.
• Advocate for youth voice and youth-informed approaches in wellbeing initiatives, service design and program development.
• Use evidence, feedback and student outcomes to identify areas for practice improvement and contribute to the ongoing development of youth work practice across Y Schools Queensland.

• Minimum five years’ substantial experience in youth work practice, preferably within an education or school-based setting.
• Demonstrated expertise in trauma-informed practice, strengths-based engagement, relational practice and youth development frameworks.
• Proven ability to provide practice leadership, coaching and mentoring to youth workers and/or multidisciplinary teams.
• Demonstrated ability to build the capability of others, influence practice across teams and contribute to positive organisational and team culture.
• Demonstrated experience supporting young people with complex needs, including engagement, wellbeing, de-escalation and co-regulation strategies.
• Strong relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams and professional disciplines.
• Demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive, inclusive and youth-centred practice.
• Capacity and willingness to travel regularly between Y Schools Queensland campuses as a core requirement of the role.
• Experience working within a Special Assistance School or alternative education setting.
• Experience supporting young people who are disengaged or disenfranchised from education.
• Experience working across multiple sites or teams, supporting consistency of practice and service delivery.
• Experience building effective partnerships with families, community organisations, cultural organisations and external support services.
