Job summary

Life Without Barriers is expanding its Staying on Track youth justice program by adding four permanent full-time Youth Advocate roles across Logan and the Gold Coast. The role focuses on mentoring, coaching and supporting young people aged 10–17 transitioning from detention back into families and communities.

Youth Advocates build trusted relationships, develop Individual Support Plans, provide outreach, and collaborate with families and stakeholders to reduce re-offending and promote education,

Qualifications

• Relevant qualifications and/or experience in Youth Justice, with a willingness to complete further training.
• Lived experience and cultural knowledge will be highly regarded.
• Experience supporting young people through coaching, mentoring, role modelling and goal-setting.

Responsibilities

• Providing mentoring, coaching and practical support to young people and their families.
• Building positive relationships and acting as a consistent, supportive role model.
• Developing and implementing Individual Support Plans in partnership with young people.
• Providing outreach support within the community and attending key appointments with young people.
• Advocating for young people and helping them access the services and supports they need.
• Supporting young people to make positive choices and develop strategies that reduce the risk of re-offending.
• Connecting young people with education, training, employment, cultural and community opportunities.
• Supporting young people to build independence, resilience and confidence.
• Working collaboratively with families, government agencies, community organisations and other key stakeholders.
• Maintaining accurate records and contributing to positive outcomes for young people.
