Programmed GO in Unanderra, NSW is seeking an experienced Workshop Leading Hand Boilermaker to lead our boilermaking and fabrication team on site. You will stay hands-on while directing daily activities, ensuring safe, efficient delivery of high-quality welding and fabrication services for regional customers.

You will supervise tradespeople, read engineering drawings, and maintain a strong safety culture, contributing to project success and continuous process improvements within our workshop.

Qualifications

  • Boilermaker trade qualification or equivalent.
  • 5+ years hands-on boilermaking experience in fabrication, assembly and welding.
  • Experience supervising, leading or mentoring tradespeople.
  • Strong knowledge of Work Health and Safety requirements and industry standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and plans.

  • Provide day-to-day leadership, direction and support to team members.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety, quality and environmental requirements.

Job description

Programmed is seeking an experienced Workshop Leading Hand Boilermaker to join our team in Unanderra, NSW.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced boilermaker to take the next step in their career and play a key leadership role within our workshop operations.

Reporting to the Workshop Supervisor, you will lead and coordinate our boilermaking and fabrication team, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards of quality. You will also remain hands‑on, applying your trade expertise across a range of fabrication, welding, assembly and repair activities.

This is a pivotal role within our operation, contributing to the successful delivery of high-quality welding and fabrication services to our customers across the region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate the workshop team, ensuring efficient workflow and projects are delivered to schedule.
  • Provide day‑to‑day leadership, direction and support to team members.
  • Ensure all work is undertaken in accordance with company, customer and legislative health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Conduct quality inspections to ensure completed work meets engineering specifications, drawings and required quality standards.
  • Liaise closely with the Workshop Supervisor regarding project requirements, priorities, resources and delivery expectations.
  • Undertake hands‑on duties, including fabrication, structural assembly, repairs and welding.
  • Monitor and maintain accurate records of work progress, materials, productivity and safety‑related matters.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workshop processes, productivity and efficiency, and recommend practical solutions.
  • Promote a positive safety culture and lead by example in all aspects of workshop operations.
About You

To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced and capable boilermaker with strong fabrication skills and demonstrated leadership experience.

You will ideally have:

  • A current Australian‑recognised boilermaking qualification or equivalent trade certification.
  • 5+ years hands‑on boilermaking experience, with strong expertise in fabrication, assembly and welding.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising, leading or mentoring tradespeople.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian Work Health and Safety requirements and relevant industry standards.
  • The ability to accurately read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and plans.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse team.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and a high level of attention to detail.
  • A demonstrated commitment to safety, quality and delivering a high standard of workmanship.
