Job summary

A leading staffing provider in engineering seeks an experienced Wellsite Geologist for a 6-month contract in Queensland. You will deliver real-time geological support for multi-well drilling within an unconventional gas environment. Responsibilities include supervising drilling activities, ensuring safety compliance, and engaging with stakeholders. Candidates must hold a Geoscience degree and possess extensive wellsite experience. A rotating roster with 21 days on/off is implemented. Wellsite Geologist – Tight Gas Sand

6 month contract (view to extend) – 21 days on / 21 days off – 12 hour days

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Wellsite Geologist to support an active multi well drilling program within an onshore unconventional gas environment. Reporting to the Subsurface Well Delivery Manager and working closely with Operations Geologists, this role is responsible for providing real time geological support to drilling operations and ensuring safe, compliant and efficient well delivery. This is a site based role working on a rotating roster, offering the opportunity to be part of a technically challenging and fast paced subsurface team.

Key responsibilities
  • Provide operational wellsite geology support during drilling activities, including real time monitoring and interpretation of geological and drilling data
  • Supervise and quality assure mudlogging, wireline logging and subsurface data acquisition operations
  • Deliver geo steering support for horizontal wells to ensure the wellbore remains within the planned reservoir target
  • Provide subsurface input into well delivery process control points and assurance reviews
  • Deliver and manage subsurface process safety requirements including formation tops, H2S prediction, geohazards and subsurface emergency response data
  • Prepare and contribute to regulatory and compliance documentation including pre and post well reports
  • Support contract management activities related to subsurface services
  • Engage with regulatory and permitting teams to provide subsurface technical input
  • Ensure accurate documentation and management of subsurface data in line with company procedures
  • Take accountability for well information and data integrity throughout the well delivery lifecycle
  • Maintain regular communication and collaboration with operations geology and wells teams
Role scope
  • Member of a subsurface team delivering a multi well appraisal and development program
  • Accountable for adherence to subsurface process safety and HSSE critical activities
  • Provides technical input into well delivery and project assurance frameworks
  • Rostered role requiring work outside standard business hours, collaboration across time zones and onsite field presence in line with HSSE requirements
Skills and experience
  • Degree qualified in Geoscience or a related discipline
  • Extensive experience in wellsite geology and directional drilling operations
  • Demonstrated experience supporting drilling programs involving HSSE critical activities and high pressure environments
  • Experience in tight gas or unconventional reservoirs is highly regarded
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence operational decision making
  • Proven ability to manage multiple internal interfaces across multidisciplinary project teams
  • High level interpersonal skills including communication, collaboration and emotional intelligence
  • Strong planning, organisation and documentation skills
  • Demonstrated capability in coaching, mentoring and delivering outcomes through others
