Sugar Research Australia Ltd. is seeking a Weed management Research Officer for the Burdekin region. The role is fixed-term and field-based, with possible glasshouse and laboratory tasks, focused on one weed management project.

Based at the Burdekin site, you will contribute to trials, data collection, and reporting, requiring an agricultural background, practical machinery experience, and the ability to work in hot, humid outdoor environments.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma level qualification in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, Environmental, Biological Science or related discipline or extensive relevant experience gained in service.
• Strong understanding of cropping systems.
• Practical experience operating agricultural machinery (tractors, sprayers).
• Ability to work outdoors in hot and humid conditions.
• Computer skills and meticulous data recording and reporting.

• Manage field trials and related activities to support weed management research.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Research officer in Weed management is based at the Burdekin site and manages the trials and related activities we do to support our research. Activities are mainly field based but can also include glasshouse and laboratory work. The role is focused on one research project.

YOUR REQUIREMENTS

You will bring with you the following qualifications, capabilities and experience:

• Degree or Diploma level qualification in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, Environmental, Biological Science or related discipline or extensive relevant experience gained in service.
• Strong understanding of cropping systems.
• Practical experience in managing operation and maintenance of agricultural machinery, in particular tractors and sprayers.
• Capacity to work outside in a hot and humid environment.
• Competency in computer skills and high attention to detail in respect to recording data and outcomes.
• Demonstrated effective communication skills and proven autonomy and self-sufficiency to carry out activities unsupervised.

FURTHER INFORMATION

The successful applicant will also be required to undertake a medical assessment (includes functional and drug and alcohol screenings) and a police check.
