Job summary

The Australian National University seeks a talented Web Developer to support imaging sciences research at CTLab within the Research School of Physics. You will design, develop and maintain full-stack web applications to support data collection, processing, analysis and visualization.

Working under the Senior Software Engineer, you will enhance CTLab web services, collaborate with researchers and external partners, and ensure secure, scalable software aligned with best practices in web security.

Classification: ANU Officer 7 (Information Technology)
Salary package: $110,546 - $116,083 per annum plus 17% superannuation
Terms:Full-time, Fixed Term, up to 24 months

The Position

The Research School of Physics at The Australian National University is seeking a talented Web Developer to support world-leading imaging sciences research at the National Centre for X-ray Micro-Computed Tomography (CTLab).

Working under the broad direction of the Senior Software Engineer and with a high degree of autonomy, you will design, develop and maintain full-stack web applications that support the collection, processing, analysis and visualisation of scientific data. A key focus of the role will be supporting the OreAI project and enhancing the functionality and usability of CTLab web services.

You will collaborate with researchers, professional staff and external partners to develop innovative web-based solutions, resolve platform issues, implement secure and scalable systems, and ensure software aligns with modern web security standards and best practices.

The Person

You will bring demonstrated experience in full-stack web development, with strong Python backend skills and knowledge of modern frontend frameworks. You will have expertise in database technologies, Linux environments, and software engineering best practices, along with excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and organisational skills. A commitment to collaboration, inclusion and delivering high-quality technical solutions in a research-focused environment is essential.

The School and Department

The Department of Materials Physics is part of the Research School of Physics and delivers internationally recognised research across a broad range of physics disciplines. The department is home to the National Centre for X-ray Micro-Computed Tomography (CTLab), which provides advanced imaging capabilities and supports collaborative research with academic, government and industry partners.
