Job summary

CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, is seeking a Virtualisation Engineer to help operate and modernise CSIRO’s private cloud and virtualisation platforms. You will work within the IIS team, delivering VMware vSphere, VCF, Cisco UCS, and related services to support research and enterprise workloads.

You will drive automation, platform hardening, security, and lifecycle management, collaborating with stakeholders to deliver reliable, scalable infrastructure and positive customer outcomes.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Science, Engineering, CS, IT or related field; or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated Cisco UCS server hardware infrastructure management.
• Knowledge of VMware virtualization suite.
• Programming, scripting, or infrastructure orchestration experience.
• Linux and Windows server administration experience.
• Experience with VMware vSphere, VCF and related services.
• Automation/scripting using PowerShell, Terraform, or JavaScript.
• Ability to monitor, troubleshoot and analyze performance across infrastructures.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and support VMware vSphere, VCF and related virtual infrastructure.
• Resolve incidents, service requests and operational issues.
• Troubleshoot performance and availability of platforms.
• Participate in on‑call and major incident support.
• Manage Cisco UCS infrastructure, including Fabric Interconnects and servers.
