Job summary

Greencross Vets Hornsby is seeking an experienced Veterinary Nurse to join our team on a casual basis. This hands-on role supports veterinarians, cares for patients, and helps maintain the smooth day-to-day operations of the clinic.

You will undertake general nursing duties, assist during consultations, monitor anaesthesia, collect pathology samples, and provide nurse consulting and client education in a busy, modern clinic attached to Petbarn.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing is required (or equivalent).
• 2+ years of clinical veterinary nursing experience.
• Confident across both medical and surgical nursing.
• Excellent animal handling and client service skills.

Responsibilities

• Undertaking general nursing duties, including pre- and post-operative patient care.
• Assisting veterinarians during consultations, treatments, and procedures.
• Monitoring anaesthesia and supporting patient recovery.
• Collecting pathology samples and performing diagnostic testing.
• Medical and hospital nursing and surgical preparation.
• Nurse consulting and client education.
• Maintaining clinic hygiene, including surgical areas and equipment.

About the Role

As an experienced Veterinary Nurse, you'll play an important role in supporting our veterinarians, caring for patients, and helping maintain the smooth day-to-day operation of the clinic.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Undertaking general nursing duties, including pre- and post-operative patient care
• Assisting veterinarians during consultations, treatments, and procedures
• Monitoring anaesthesia and supporting patient recovery
• Collecting pathology samples and performing diagnostic testing
• Medical and hospital nursing
• Surgical preparation and theatre assistance
• Nurse consulting and client education
• Maintaining clinic hygiene, including surgical areas and equipment
• Supporting reception and client care duties when required
• Delivering exceptional patient care and customer service

This is a hands-on role where your nursing skills and experience will be valued and utilised every day.

About You

We're looking for someone who:

• Holds a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing (or equivalent)
• Has 2+ years of clinical veterinary nursing experience
• Is confident across both medical and surgical nursing
• Demonstrates strong anaesthetic monitoring and patient care skills
• Has excellent animal handling abilities
• Brings strong communication and customer service skills
• Is organised, reliable, and adaptable
• Works well both independently and as part of a team
• Has experience with RxWorks (desirable but not essential)

Most importantly, you're passionate about veterinary nursing and enjoy building strong relationships with both clients and colleagues.
