Job summary

Synergie Australia is seeking Vector Controllers for a government client in Cairns. The role requires performing routine and emergency mosquito control, including interior applications and servicing traps, with data collection and entomological surveillance.

This casual position runs through the wet season with potential extension; you must be able to work outside in heat, travel occasionally, and have Australian work rights. A C Class license and pest management license are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and emergency vector control of mosquitoes, including interior insecticide applications, trap servicing, and breeding site treatment.
• Collect data and use field equipment for monitoring.

• Work weekends and after-hours during disease outbreaks; frequent trips may be required; some travel away from home.

Synergie Australia is seeking Vector Controllers for our Government client located in Cairns.

The important parts:

• Start date: ASAP - casual contract during the wet season with possible extensions
• Availability to work away from home on occasion
• Must have Australian work rights, be physically fit to walk long distances and work outside in the heat.

What you will be required to do:

Perform routine and emergency vector control of mosquitoes. Control may include interior applications of insecticide, premise-to-premise inspections, servicing mosquito traps, and treatment or removal of mosquito breeding sites. Frequent trips will be required potentially at short notice. Weekends and after-hours work will be required during disease outbreaks

This will also include collection of data, use of appropriate equipment

Perform entomological techniques for the monitoring and surveillance of mosquitoes

To be successful in this role you will:

• Be able to communicate well with a range of stakeholders including the public, and government employees
• Demonstrate the ability to interact sensitively, effectively and professionally with people from diverse cultural, socioeconomic and education backgrounds
• Can work with various computer programs (word processing and datasheets) and preferably possess a chemical spraying license.

Mandatory qualifications/Professional registration/Other requirements

• C Class license
• Previous experience applying chemicals to control mosquitoes (a current pest management technician license would be well regarded).

This is a casual role due to start mid-November 2026 the possibility for ongoing work for several months for the right candidate.
