Job summary

Geosurv, based in Sydney, NSW, is seeking skilled Utility Locators to identify and map underground utilities for major infrastructure projects. This hands-on role requires precision, safety awareness and the ability to operate specialised equipment in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will work closely with project teams to ensure safe and accurate utility locating, maintain detailed records and deliver high-quality service to clients.

Qualifications

• 12 months’ experience as Utility Locator or similar.
• NULCA or RIICCM202D – Identify, Locate & Protect Underground Services
• Dial Before You Dig accreditation (current or in progress)
• Proficient with utility locating equipment (radio detection, GPR, concrete scanners)
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to work independently or as part of a team
• Ability to troubleshoot and maintain high work standards
• Valid Driver’s Licence and White Card

Responsibilities

• Locate and map underground utilities (water, gas, electricity, telecoms) using specialised equipment.
• Apply AS-5488 standards and SWMS in the field.
• Interpret utility plans and cross-check underground asset locations.
• Maintain detailed records, QA reports and project documentation.
• Collaborate with construction teams to ensure safe excavation and protection of buried infrastructure.
• Communicate professionally with clients and coordinate with contractors on project requirements.
• Mentor trainees and promote safe, effective work practices.
• Contribute to continuous improvement, productivity, and compliance initiatives.

The Opportunity

We are seeking skilled Utility Locators to accurately identify and map underground utilities and services for our diverse projects. This is a hands‑on role requiring precision, safety awareness and the ability to operate specialised equipment in a fast‑paced, client‑focused environment.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will work closely with project teams to ensure safe and accurate utility locating, maintain detailed records and deliver high‑quality service to clients.

What You Will Be Doing

• Accurately locate and map underground utilities (water, gas, electricity, telecoms) using specialised equipment
• Apply AS-5488 standards and Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) consistently in the field
• Interpret utility plans and cross‑check underground asset locations
• Maintain detailed records, QA reports and project documentation
• Collaborate with construction teams to ensure safe excavation and protection of buried infrastructure
• Communicate professionally with clients and coordinate with contractors on project requirements
• Support team development by mentoring trainees and guiding safe, effective work practices
• Contribute to continuous improvement, productivity, and compliance initiatives

Skills & Qualifications

• Minimum 12 months’ experience as a Utility Locator or similar role
• NULCA or equivalent course (RIICCM202D – Identify, Locate & Protect Underground Services)
• Dial Before You Dig accreditation (current or in progress)
• Proficient with utility locating equipment (radio detection, GPR, concrete scanners)
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to work independently or as part of a team
• Ability to troubleshoot, make decisions under pressure, and maintain high work standards
• Valid Driver’s Licence and White Card
