Job summary

DUAL, part of Howden, is seeking an Underwriter – Commercial to join our Sydney Underwriting team. You will develop your technical underwriting capability across Financial Lines, General Liability and Accident & Health while building strong broker relationships.

With 1–2 years in insurance, you will manage SME renewal portfolios, respond to broker inquiries, and support business development.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years' insurance experience minimum.
• Genuine interest in progressing into commercial underwriting.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills with brokers.
• Excellent customer service, organisation and attention to detail.
• Proactive approach and willingness to learn.

Role overview

We’re looking for an Underwriter – Commercial to join our Sydney Underwriting team. Working alongside experienced underwriters, you’ll develop your technical underwriting capability across Financial Lines, General Liability and Accident & Health lines while building strong relationships with brokers and gaining exposure to a broad range of risks.

In this role, you will:

• Manage and service an SME renewal portfolio through the DUAL Webrater, our online tracking platform
• Build and maintain strong broker relationships through regular engagement and proactive communication
• Respond to broker enquiries and provide timely underwriting support
• Develop your underwriting knowledge and technical expertise across multiple product lines
• Support business development activities through broker outreach and relationship building

About you

You may currently be a Policy Administrator, Insurance Administrator or Assistant Underwriter with 1-2 years' insurance experience and are looking to progress into a commercial underwriting role. You'll bring:

• Experience in the insurance industry, ideally within a policy administration, insurance administration or assistant underwriting role
• A genuine interest in developing a career in underwriting
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with confidence engaging brokers by phone
• Excellent customer service, organisation and attention to detail
• A proactive approach and willingness to learn
