Job summary

South32’s Cannington operation in northwest Queensland is seeking a Mine Planning Engineer on a permanent roster. You will drive strategic and operational underground mine planning, focusing on safe, sustainable practices and efficient production.

The role collaborates with Geology and Geotechnical teams, develops stope designs, monitors sequences, and enhances planning processes to improve safety and profitability.

Qualifications

• Comprehensive knowledge of underground hard rock drill-and-blast, in principle and practice.
• Strong planning skills with a focus on value creation and risk-based decisions.
• Ability to analyse historical stope performance to optimise future designs.
• Proficient in mining software; Deswik experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop design plans for the Mining team, including stope shapes and blast strategies.
• Collaborate with Geology and Geotechnical teams to ensure designs suit geological conditions.
• Monitor and adjust mining sequences and stope shapes to optimise value and adherence to drivers.
• Enhance mine planning processes to improve safety, profitability, and cost control while managing risks.
