We are seeking an experienced Trust Officer to join our finance team. This is a hands‑on role combining legal trust accounting with accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) responsibilities, making it ideal for someone with strong accounting skills, exceptional attention to detail and experience working in a law firm environment.

The Role

You will be responsible for the day‑to‑day administration of the firm’s trust accounts, ensuring compliance with relevant trust accounting regulations while supporting the wider finance function through accurate and timely AP and AR processing.

Key responsibilities include:

Trust Accounting

  • Manage the firm’s statutory trust bank accounts in accordance with the Legal Profession Uniform Law and applicable NSW regulations.
  • Process daily trust receipts, payments, electronic funds transfers (EFTs) and journal entries.
  • Complete daily and monthly trust reconciliations, including three‑way reconciliations.
  • Ensure trust monies are correctly received, allocated, recorded and disbursed.
  • Liaise with solicitors, clients and financial institutions regarding trust transactions and settlement payments.
  • Maintain accurate trust accounting records and assist with internal and external trust account audits.
  • Monitor compliance with trust accounting procedures and regulatory requirements.

Accounts Payable (AP)

  • Process supplier invoices, ensuring accuracy, appropriate approvals and correct general ledger coding.
  • Prepare and process supplier payments in accordance with agreed payment terms.
  • Reconcile supplier statements and investigate outstanding invoices or discrepancies.
  • Respond to supplier queries and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Accounts Receivable (AR)

  • Process receipts and allocate payments accurately against outstanding balances.
  • Monitor outstanding receivables and follow up on overdue accounts where required.
  • Reconcile customer and client accounts and investigate discrepancies.
  • Assist with billing‑related queries, account adjustments and the resolution of payment issues.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and support month‑end reporting and reconciliations.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in a Trust Officer role within a law firm.
  • Strong, hands‑on experience across both accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Sound knowledge of legal trust accounting requirements, including the Legal Profession Uniform Law and NSW trust accounting regulations.
  • Experience completing bank reconciliations and investigating discrepancies.
  • Proficiency in legal accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent numerical skills and a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Professional communication skills and the confidence to liaise with solicitors, clients, suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • A high level of integrity and the ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion.

Experience with legal practice management and accounting systems will be highly regarded.
