Shire of Banana is seeking a labouring operative to operate Council rigid trucks and road plants, perform maintenance, and assist on maintenance and construction projects in a hands-on role.

The position requires a current Qld HR licence and General Safety Induction. You will maintain records, read plans, and liaise with staff and authorities, contributing to safe, efficient operations and public-facing service delivery.

• Qld General Safety Induction (White or Blue Card) is required.

Responsabilités

• Keep a daily diary of plant movements.
• Read and interpret basic plans and instructions.
• Perform general labouring duties.
• Report identified weeds.
• Liaise with workplace representatives and staff to improve work practices.
• Contribute to public relations and image of the Council.
• Liaise with clients, staff, public and authorities as needed.
• Undertake routine administrative tasks (e.g., timesheets).
• Assist senior staff to improve processes and develop new practices.
• Participate in training, exercises and disaster management responses.

GENERAL POSITION INFORMATION

To undertake labouring tasks and efficiently operate a range of Council rigid trucks and road plant to meet required standards on maintenance and construction projects.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide high quality plant operation services
• Maintain and service plant and equipment, in accordance with operating procedures
• Maintain a daily diary of plant movements as required
• Read and interpret basic plans and instructions
• Perform general labouring duties
• Report identified weeds
• Liaise with workplace representative and employees to continuously improve work practices.
• Contribute to the promotion of the image of the Council and the maximisation of good public relations
• Liaise with clients, other Council staff, the public, consultants, utility and government authorities in the performance of duties including providing and obtaining information
• Undertake routine administrative tasks as required by the position e.g. timesheets
• Assist senior staff to continuously improve work processes and develop new practices as required
• Participate in training, exercises and response to disaster management and recovery as required
• Undertake other relevant duties as directed, consistent with skills, competence and training.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND LICENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Compulsory
• Current Qld Class ‘HR’ driver’s licence
• Qld General Safety Induction (White or Blue Card).
• Desirable
• Other plant tickets.

ABILITIES, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

• Compulsory Experience in the effective operation of heavy vehicles within a maintenance or construction infrastructure environment
• Basic literacy, numeracy and oral communication skills and ability undertake Learning and Development opportunities as required
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment under minimal supervision.
• Sound understanding of and commitment to EEO and WHS principles and practices.
