Job summary

Georges River Council is seeking an arboriculture professional to manage the urban forest, assess trees, respond to permit applications, and support risk management within a growing city.

In the Tree Management Officer role you will work with the Tree Maintenance team, uphold the Tree Management Policy, and provide expert advice to staff and the community.

Qualifications

  • AQF5 arboriculture qualification or currently undertaking.
  • Class C Drivers Licence required.
  • Construction Induction Card (White Card) preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of tree health and structural condition assessments.
  • Experience identifying trees, pests and diseases; understanding tree faults.
  • Experience in risk management for trees (TRAQ).
  • Public consultation and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to produce clear, timely reports.
  • Team player with collaborative approach.
  • Commitment to WHS and EEO principles.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Proficiency with Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct tree risk assessments and respond to incidents involving public trees.
  • Assess private tree permit applications and advise on compliance with policy.
  • Maintain tree asset inventory and support proactive planting/maintenance programs.
  • Provide expert arboricultural advice to staff and the community.
  • Collaborate with Tree Maintenance to deliver high-quality services.

Georges River Council has an excellent opportunity for an arboriculture professional to make an immediate impact on the sustainable management of urban trees in a growing city our local environment.

Are you passionate about urban trees and their role in creating vibrant, sustainable communities? As aTree Management Officer at Georges River Council, you’ll play a vital role in the planning, assessment, and care of our urban forest. From evaluating private tree permit applications to responding to community service requests, you’ll be the go‑to expert for all things arboriculture.

In this dynamic role, you’ll conduct tree risk assessments, investigate incidents involving public trees, and contribute to the development of proactive planting and maintenance programs. You’ll also maintain Council’s tree asset inventory, ensure compliance with relevant legislation, and provide expert advice to both internal teams and the public. Working closely with the Tree Maintenance team, you’ll help deliver high‑quality arboricultural services that align with Council’s Tree Management Policy and industry best practices.

What We Are Looking For

  • Relevant Tertiary qualifications in arboriculture AQF5 or currently undertaking
  • Class C Drivers Licence
  • Construction Induction Card (White Card)
  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge and experience in the assessment of tree health and structural condition
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in the identification of trees, pest and biological diseases of trees; and the mechanical and structural faults of trees
  • Experience in risk management associated with trees TRAQ
  • Demonstrated experience in public consultation and conflict resolution skills
  • Proven ability to create reports that are accurate, clear concise and timely
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team collaboratively
  • Understanding and commitment to WHS practices and EEO principles
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word/Excel)
