Tree Management Officer - 6-month contract - $55 per hour

An opportunity exists for an experienced Tree Management Officer to join a local council team on a 6-month contract.

This role is hands‑on and advisory, focusing on the management, assessment, and protection of public trees. You'll balance field inspections, resident enquiries, and contractor oversight to ensure trees are maintained safely and in line with council standards.

Key responsibilities
  • Inspect and assess trees in streets, parks, and public spaces.
  • Process Tree Management Order applications and prepare associated permits.
  • Provide technical advice to staff, contractors, and the community.
  • Investigate tree‑related incidents and maintain accurate records in the Tree Asset Register.
  • Supervise contractors and ensure work is completed safely, on time, and within budget.
About you

You’ll have experience in arboriculture or tree management, ideally in a local government or consulting environment. You’re confident conducting tree assessments, writing reports, and delivering high‑quality advice to a range of stakeholders. Strong communication and customer service skills are essential.
