Job summary

MCJ Appointments seeks an experienced Tree Management Officer for Blacktown City Council. The role sits in Open Space Maintenance and blends site inspections, arboricultural expertise, and administrative duties with community engagement.

You will inspect trees, assess health and maintenance needs, manage permits for Tree Preservation Orders, and supervise contractors to meet safety and budget targets.

Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in arboriculture or a related field.
  • Extensive experience across tree management.
  • A current Class C driver’s licence.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence handling resident enquiries.
  • The ability to assess hazards, prioritise work and maintain accurate records.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect council trees to assess health, condition and maintenance needs.
  • Assess Tree Preservation Order applications and prepare permits.
  • Investigate incidents and property damage involving trees or roots.
  • Coordinate and monitor tree planting, replacement and maintenance works.
  • Oversee contractors and ensure compliance with service agreements.
  • Provide practical advice to residents, council staff and stakeholders.
  • Prepare correspondence, reports and project updates.
  • Ensure works meet safety requirements, budgets and timeframes.

Job description

MCJ Appointments is seeking an experienced Tree Management Officer for an opportunity with Blacktown City Council.
Working within the Open Space Maintenance team, you’ll provide expert arboricultural advice, inspect public trees and support tree planting and replacement programs. This role combines site inspections, technical administration and community engagement.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Inspecting council trees to assess their health, condition and maintenance needs.
  • Assessing Tree Preservation Order applications and preparing permits.
  • Investigating incidents and property damage involving trees or roots.
  • Coordinating and monitoring tree planting, replacement and maintenance works.
  • Overseeing contractors and checking compliance with service agreements.
  • Providing practical advice to residents, council staff and other stakeholders.
  • Preparing correspondence, reports and project updates.
  • Ensuring works meet safety requirements, budgets and timeframes.
What you’ll bring:
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in arboriculture or a related field.
  • Extensive experience across tree management.
  • A current Class C driver’s licence.

Desirable qualifications include:
  • NSW construction induction training / White Card.
  • Traffic control implementation accreditation.
