Job summary

Hydro Tasmania is offering a structured Trainee Power Station Operator program on Flinders Island to train as an Operator Maintainer. You’ll begin as a Trainee and progress to a fully qualified Operator Maintainer, gaining hands-on experience powering Tasmania’s island community.

The role includes significant on-site training, with relocation support and clear milestones. You will operate and maintain large renewable assets and participate in a 24/7 roster, with generous leave and development

Qualifications

  • Qualified mechanical or electrical tradesperson with certs.
  • Experience in industrial or production environments.
  • Ability to follow operating procedures and permit systems.
  • Strong fault-finding skills for abnormal plant conditions.
  • Current driver’s licence, reporting skills and safety focus.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver construction, maintenance, commissioning and fault response activities across electrical plant and infrastructure.
  • Operate, maintain and monitor HV and LV electrical plant, switchyards and auxiliaries.
