Job summary

The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) invites applications for a Trainee Anaesthetist at Wollongong Hospital. You will gain hands‑on experience in anaesthetic practice, under supervision, across multiple surgical specialties and patient ages.

Successful applicants will be ANZCA Trainees, with Basic Training in Anaesthetics and two years of approved training, and must pass the Preliminary Exam to progress in a busy teaching hospital environment.

• Eligibility requires Basic Training in Anaesthetics with 2 years of approved training and Preliminary Exam.
• Must be registered or eligible to be registered as an ANZCA Trainee.
• Hospital is accredited for four years of anaesthetic training under ISLHD.

An exciting opportunity exists to join the Anaesthetics Department at Wollongong Hospital.

To be eligible to apply for this position, candidates must have completed Basic Training in Anaesthetics with 2 years of approved training and have passed the Preliminary Exam.

Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra and Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed base of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.

What you'll be doing

To deliver safe, competent anaesthesia under appropriate supervision, for patients ranging from young children to elderly patients with significant pre-existing comorbidities. This includes patients who are critically ill or have suffered major trauma, and a broad range of surgical specialties including Plastics & Maxillofacial; Cardiothoracic Surgery;General (Colorectal, Upper GI, Head and Neck); ENT; Obstetrics and Gynaecology; Orthopaedic; Paediatric; Urology; Vascular; and Neurosurgery.

The Trainee will provide Anaesthetic Services to patients of the Illawarra and Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) while developing experience and expertise in Anaesthetic practice in a complex clinical environment, under the supervision of Anaesthetic Specialists as appointed by ISLHD.

Applicants must register or be registered as an ANZCA Trainee. This hospital is accredited for four (4) years of training.
