Service Stream in Brisbane is seeking a Trade Assistant (Mechanical and/or Electrical) to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis. You will work alongside qualified tradespeople to maintain water and wastewater infrastructure, contributing to reliable community services.

Qualifications

• Current HR or MR Driver Licence required.
• Experience as Trade Assistant or in maintenance roles.
• Ability to work safely in industrial environments.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills, with willingness to train.
• After-hours availability as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist qualified tradespeople with maintenance activities.
• Support reactive, corrective and scheduled maintenance programs.
• Operate plant, equipment and vehicles safely.
• Maintain records and data entry for maintenance tasks.
• Assist with deliveries, stores, procurement and warehouse activities.
• Liaise with clients and stakeholders on operational activities.
• Promote safe work practices and participate in improvement initiatives.
• Support installation, repair and upgrades on water assets.
• Participate in after-hours works and emergency response.
• Learn from experienced trades and develop industry skills.

About the Role

Service Stream’s Utilities division is seeking a motivated Trade Assistant (Mechanical and/or Electrical) to join our Brisbane team on a full-time, permanent basis.

Working alongside experienced electrical and mechanical trades personnel, you’ll play a key role in maintaining and improving essential water and wastewater infrastructure that supports local communities every day.

This hands‑on position offers a diverse workload, including maintenance activities, equipment operation, warehouse support, procurement tasks and after‑hours maintenance when required. It’s an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build their technical capability and progress their career within the utilities industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist qualified tradespeople with mechanical and electrical maintenance activities
• Support reactive, corrective and scheduled maintenance programs
• Operate plant, equipment and vehicles safely and effectively
• Complete maintenance records, documentation and data entry requirements
• Assist with deliveries, stores, procurement and warehouse activities
• Liaise with clients and stakeholders regarding operational activities
• Promote safe work practices and participate in continuous improvement initiatives
• Support installation, repair and upgrade works across water and wastewater assets
• Participate in after‑hours works and emergency response activities as required
• Learn from experienced trades personnel and develop valuable industry skills

About You

Essential Requirements

• Current HR or MR Driver Licence
• Experience working in a Trade Assistant, maintenance or similar hands‑on role
• Ability to work safely within operational and industrial environments
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Willingness to participate in training and ongoing development
• Ability to undertake after‑hours work when required

Desirable Experience & Qualifications

• Experience within the water or utilities industry
• Experience supporting mechanical or electrical maintenance activities
• Experience operating HIAB trucks
• Confined Space Entry certification or experience
• National High Risk Work Licence
• Experience completing JSEAs and associated HSE documentation
• Knowledge of asset maintenance and infrastructure environments
