Job description

At Intrepid Travel we exist to inspire, create, share and lead the best travel experiences ever – for both people and the planet. More than 34 years later, we’re proud to be a certified B Corp with hundreds of trips in over 100 countries.

Do you dream of inspiring travellers whilst discovering ancient rainforests or camping under the starry skies of the outback? As a tour leader your days will be filled with creating unforgettable moments for travellers and showcasing the amazing things Australia has to offer, all whilst getting paid to do so.

Every day will be different, but every day you will:
  • Lead small groups through incredible Australian locations, sharing local stories and amazing customer service, facilitating memories our customers will never forget
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of your group, at times you will have to assist in difficult situations whilst remaining calm and professional.
  • Host, lead and execute tours to budget, following the itinerary and fulfilling your administrative duties
  • Live your passion for travel and share your love of it with our travellers. Every step of the way you’ll embody our core values of real, impactful, ambitious and together.
You would make a great leader if you:
  • Love that no two days are the same and thrive out of your comfort zone
  • Have strong communication skills and enjoy bringing people together
  • Are organised, proactive and able to multitask under pressure
  • Have full work rights in Australia with a Remote Area First Aid Certificate, a valid Passenger Endorsement/Accreditation and a Medium Rigid Driver’s License (or willing to obtain)
  • Are passionate about showcasing the beauty of Australia and connecting travellers with incredible natural and cultural stories of the places you are in
  • Prior experience working as a Tour Guide is beneficial, but not essential!
  • Hospitality or campsite management experience and gravel road driving and/or mechanical knowledge and experience is also desirable but not essential.
The important stuff:

We are looking to recruit up to 20 leaders to work in one of these locations from Autumn to Spring 2026:

  • Camping tours in the Kimberley and Karijini, and sightseeing along the Coral Coast in Western Australia
  • Sightseeing tours based in Cairns, Brisbane and Sydney (including seeking 18–35-year-olds to lead our 18–35-year-old tours based from Brisbane)
  • Camping and sightseeing tours from Alice Springs in the Northern Territory.

If selected, you will need to join our paid induction training held from 16th – 20th March 2026. You will then be based in one of these locations until the end of the season.

We are also seeking up to 5 foreign language speaking nature guides that can speak English and one or more of German, French, Spanish and/or Italian. This work is less regular than the locations above with opportunities primarily in Adelaide/Kangaroo Island, Alice Springs, Melbourne, and along the East Coast of Australia.

These are all casual positions. After the winter season, our southern Australian trips will commence from September providing further opportunities. As you can imagine, some days on trips are long, and require a decent level of fitness alongside lots of chatting, so it is important you are both physically and mentally prepared.

Our people reflect the diversity of our customers and the communities we visit:

Intrepid is made up of 71 nationalities in over 30 countries, and we recognise that diversity makes us a stronger business. We support a culture where people can be themselves and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds. Including First Nations People, LGBTQI+ people, those living with a disability, or from disadvantaged backgrounds, and all people from different ethnicities, races, and religions.

For our Tour Leaders, the work perks may vary from country to country, but some of the work perks we offer include:
  • Diverse departures through the year to lead! Including hiking or biking adventures, festival, family, premium and foodie trips
  • Travel to where the trip starts (and home again) is included and covered by us
  • Some meals and all accommodation included (often where the guests are staying, such as hotels, camping, homestays etc)
  • Access to learning and development programs, e-learning and comprehensive tour leader training before you even start
  • Internal career opportunities to further your your career in travel and beyond
  • Amazing travel discounts for you to experience Intrepid as a passenger
  • Recognition and celebration with awards nights and the chance for our top performers to travel to our yearly Global Summit!
  • Opportunity to support not-for-profit Intrepid Foundations projects
We are Real. Together. Ambitious. Impactful.

These are our values and to us they're more than just words, they are the pillars of our success and every day it's our people and the work they do that bring them to life.
