Job description

Select how often (in days) to receive an alert:

Every day, millions of Australians connect, work, stream, and stay in touch on the Optus network. When it works seamlessly, it's easy to take for granted. But behind it is a team making thousands of decisions every day - decisions that keep people, businesses and communities connected.

Right now, Optus is passionate about getting the fundamentals right - simplifying how we work, lifting standards, and building a more reliable, resilient experience for our customers. It's not about surface-level change. It's about how we make decisions, how we work together, and how we deliver.

The Technology Lifecycle & Risk Specialist is responsible for maintaining end-to-end visibility of the technology asset lifecycle across the Networks Business Unit. This role ensures that end-of-life (EOL) and end-of-support (EOS) milestones are proactively tracked, escalated, and managed before they create operational, security, or commercial risk. The role sits at the intersection of risk management, technology planning, and vendor governance - acting as a single point of accountability for lifecycle intelligence and providing actionable insights to senior stakeholders.

Your day to day will consist of
  • Own and maintain a comprehensive technology asset inventory, including hardware, software, network platforms, and associated EOL/EOS dates.
  • Establish and manage proactive lifecycle planning with milestone alerts and governance to ensure timely refresh, upgrade, or decommission activities.
  • Partner across technology domains to validate asset data, close inventory gaps, and ensure lifecycle coverage and accountability.
  • Identify, assess, and manage operational, security, financial, regulatory, and vendor-related risks associated with EOL/EOS assets.
  • Maintain lifecycle risk registers, drive risk remediation, and elevate critical issues with clear recommendations to leadership and governance forums.
  • Deliver lifecycle and risk reporting, executive dashboards, business cases, and insights on vendor roadmap, support, and product lifecycle changes.
  • Define and embed lifecycle management policies, processes, and tooling improvements, integrating lifecycle governance into procurement, architecture, and project delivery practices.
What makes you perfect for the role
  • 10+ years’ experience in technology risk, asset management, infrastructure lifecycle management, or a related field within large, complex environments.
  • Proven experience managing EOL/EOS programs, technology refresh initiatives, and large-scale lifecycle portfolios.
  • Strong technical knowledge of mobile- and fixed-network infrastructure, including hardware, operating systems, software platforms, and network technologie
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, assess, maintain, and communicate technology risks through structured risk management processes.
  • Advanced data analysis, reporting, and dashboarding skills using tools such as Excel, Power BI, or similar platforms.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage effectively across technical and business audiences.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of translating complex technical information into clear business insights
What's in it for you?
  • Competitive remuneration and employee discounts. Make life easier (and more affordable) with $80 monthly credit and 25% off Optus products and unique shopping discounts with our retail partners.
  • Competitive leave policies, including additional 'Connected' days to focus on culture, family, health, community, or whatever's important to you.
  • We support growing families with inclusive, carer-neutral paid Parental Leave of up to 16 weeks.
  • Direct your own development and build future-ready skills with Optus U's industry-focused micro-credentials, developed with La Trobe and Macquarie Universities.
  • Build meaningful connections through employee-led networks and diversity initiatives including Culture Connect, Elevate Women, Disability Network and Express Yourself (LGBTQIA+).
  • Put your wellbeing first with free access to counselling and support services, 24/7 — in-person, by phone, SMS, or video.

At Optus, we are strengthened by others and that means valuing diversity and saying ‘yes' to embracing individual differences. We are committed to ensuring that our application process provides an equal employment opportunity to all job seekers, including individuals from diverse gender, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, individuals with a disability, individuals identifying as being part of the LGBTQIA+ community, individuals who may have served in the armed forces or who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
