Job summary

V/Line is seeking a Technical Systems Specialist (Control & Communication Systems) to manage and support its OT assets—train control systems, signalling communications network, and level crossing monitoring. The role is based on Bourke Street, CBD, in a hybrid environment and includes a rotating roster with morning/afternoon shifts.

Responsibilities

• Perform fault diagnostics and rectification on OT assets under tight deadlines.
• Provide technical and system fault analysis for investigations and resolutions with stakeholders.
• Document OT system configurations and interfacing systems including networking & security requirements.
• Maintain and support level crossing monitoring, SCADA and communications backhaul.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure correct hardware and application procurement.

About the role

The Technical Systems Specialist (Control & Communication Systems) will manage and support V/Line's diverse Operational Technology assets. This role will ensure that V/Line's train control systems, signalling communications network, level crossing monitoring and associated infrastructure are maintained to ensure maximum availability.

This is a hands-on role that involves working with the business to maintain, identify, build, implement, deliver and manage the technical solutions that are required to ensure critical infrastructure assets in the operation technology environment are optimised and meet customer, operational and regulatory requirements.

About you

The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience in IT / OT Control System infrastructure. You'll be experienced in supporting internal business customers in a technical services field, preferably in an OT systems infrastructure. You'll have excellent communication and problem-solving skills and is someone that drives results.

Key accountabilities include:

• Performing fault diagnostics and rectification on V/Line Operational Technology assets under tight deadlines.
• Providing technical and system fault analysis for investigations troubleshoot and resolving system issues by working with customers, subject matter expert and vendor support.
• Performing ad-hoc technical activities as required to ensure Operational Technology systems configurations and interfacing systems are documented including networking & security requirements.
• Maintaining and supporting our level crossing monitoring system including the field devices, overarching SCADA system and communications backhaul.
• Working in collaboration with other key stakeholders to ensure the correct hardware and application procurement decisions are made.

To be considered for entry into the selection process for this role, applicants must meet the following 'key selection criteria' which forms part of our merit-based recruitment process:

• Fundamental computer forensic skills
• IT, Networking / Communication and Controls Systems experience; SCADA, PLC, HMI Interfacing systems
• Knowledge and experience working with:

Complex Networking (LAN, WAN, Layer 2 and 3 devices)

Remote Access Technology (e.g. Terminal Services, VNC, TeamViewer, Netop)

Virtualisation Platforms

Serial communications devices

Qualifications:

• Tertiary qualifications from an accredited institution in a related discipline (typically Information Technology Degree -Telecommunications / Computer Systems level)
• A degree in one or more of the following disciplines is advantageous:
